Having bought a 4S 53 plate in November 07 which had 33,000 mile on the clock and now because of the winter has only covered 300 miles more, i am confused to which, were and when the car will need servicing. The car has a full Porsche service history and the last Minor service was carried out at 29,700 miles in Leeds January 07. Having rang Leicester Porsche they have said the car needs a Major service and possibly new plugs. After many calls to Leeds Porsche they suggest the car really only needs the annual check,a big difference in cost!. As i will be keeping the car i want to maitain it with all the love and attention it deserves any advice would be gratefully recieved. If anyone know of a Indy in the Leicester area please let me know.

Hi David. I'm not from your area so don't know any indys - but that's the way to go. I'm not surprised that they've said it needs a big service - I had a call from OPC Aberdeen this morning - who I bought the car from in 2005 and haven't heard from since - to ask me if I wanted to take it there for a service!!! I think that the time of year and (more to point) the credit crunch is really starting to tell with these people now. I live 390 miles away from the OPC!!

Have a look and see when the car last had a major service - plugs, brake fluid, etc. and take it from there.

Thanks for the reply. The last Major service was Feb 06 at 19551 miles with brake fluid change.I guess that means the fluid is ready for a change again.

I think the car is due a major inc plugs every 4 yrs, regardless of mileage, and I think brake fluid every 2. Look in the service book, its sets it all out in there.

If you intend to keep it, I'd find a good indy and get it done there. OPC service history accounts for less and less as time goes on- the most important thing is a full history from someone with a good reputation.

Personally, I'd get a major done- then you know its spot on.

...and you'll probably pay the same price for a major service with an Indy as you'd pay for a minor service with OPC - and get a better job done!!

(My OPC were going to change the oil on mine - WITHOUT changing the oil filter!! Needless to say, I went straight to my Indy - who I couldn't shut up talking about my car - whereas (IMO) you can't trust your average OPC service manager to sit the right way 'round on the toilet.)

My sentiments exactly! Also, what I love about a good indy is that they are on your side, like when Tony Wright at WrighTune sorted out an MOT test for me with 3 hrs notice on monday as I needed the car for work, as it had expired and I thought I had a month more to run []
