Servicing In the North East.

Hi All,

Anybody know where's good to get a service in the North East?

I need a 12K Service, plus Fuel Filter, Belt Tension and Coolant change.

Tom Ferguson has quoted £470 (I haven't asked for PCGB Discount - anybody know if they give it?) Is that a good price?

I also got a quote from JCT600 last November for £270 for the 12K service, and £30 for the Coolant change all in. I've just rang them today and they've quoted £570 + VAT. So they can p!$$ off[]

Help greatly appreciated!

Posted on the North East Region also!

Carl,
Give Red Line Racing at Thornaby a call (01642) 751 911 I've heard lots of good reports about them, or have a day out to Leeds & try Strasse (01132) 340 911.

Also just found this
Grange Performance on Portrack Lane

Thanks for replies.

Have booked it into Tom Fergusons, as I had two recomendations, and it's closer to where I live / Work.

Will update on my experience for your info!

I sit almost half way between Strasse and Hartech and need to decide who to use for our next annual service.

Any recommendations?

I've no experience of either for servicing, but after seeing a supposed low mileage 944 turbo in Leeds sold to an unlucky punter as "mint" by Strasse, I would be heading towards Hartech!

I've only heard good about both so I don't think you can go wrong. Hartechs pricing seems more affordable, I presume because ther overheads are lower and they are recognised as a front engined specialist.

It was metallic blue with dark blue leather interior, and "only" 49000 miles.

It supposedly had a full service history, but it was very sketchy, with only a stamped up book (mostly by strasse), and a couple of bills (literally).

It also only had one colour on each panel. Pity they weren't all the same colour, and that the repairs were done so badly (the trim line on one rear quarter was noticably rounded compared to the other). It also had rusty boot locks, and "turbo" chrome plates over the sills, with rust peeking over the edges. There was alot of rust in the boot, and under the bonet. Front wings weren't the best either.

Felt sorry for the bloke who had bought it only 6 months earier for - catch this - 12 grand. It was still up for sale 3 months ago, although I haven't seen it for a while. When I looked at it, it was up for 11, and he would take 10, but it later went down to 9 on autotrader.

I have used Hartech and they are excellent

Neil,

Servicing with Tom was excellent. First class - despite problems with tensioning the belts, he didn't charge any extra, and only charged £53 to change the front pads (including VAT and the Pads!)

Also, was prepared to wait until I came back from holiday to settle the bill, and even delivered the car back to the bodyshop afterwards.

He knows his stuff, which is obvious when you speak to him, and judging from the amount of cars outside his workshop, I'm not the only one who thinks he's good!

Carl,
Thanks for that update, I fully agree. I've used Tom for major (top-end rebuild on an S!) work in the past and found him to be very enthusiastic about 944 series cars.
