Servicing my 1989 SSE Cabriolet

Last year I bought a 1989 Supersport Cabriolet with a full Porsche service history (80k on the clock). When I bought the car last year it had an oil service at Porsche West London and it is now due for the next service. I have only done about 2-3000 miles since the last service due to the poor weather and am a little confused as to what maintenance I need done and when. Porsche are quoting £500 for a full service, which seems steep but I will pay it if this is the right thing to do given the car's history.

Can anyone advise me as to the most sensible course of action regarding servicing that will ensure my car is kept in perfect condition and residual value preserved.

Thanks Phil, that's what I was thinking. Would you therefore advise that I just have a basic oil service for now and then have the full service next year?
Best, David

Hi David.
I suggest you give your local independent Porsche expert a call. I was in the same situation as you (with a 1986 car) - I went to Autofarm in Oxford and they gave the car a thorough check-over and gave an honest assessment of what needed to be done. In my view for a car of that age it's more important to get good advice about work that halts any deterioration developing and ensures it stays enjoyable to drive. That should be far more important to any future purchaser than a slavish adherence to servicing schedule.

Hi David,
I have a similar situation, average 3000km per year with my 1987 3.2. Since we are air-cooled the oil burns off and is topped up instead of sitting around and getting yucky. I recently had a discussion with Charles about annual service/annual oil change/etc. If low miles annually, the service is not critical but he advised at least changing the oil filter annually. Makes sense to me.
Send him an email to confirm. He nearly always attends Kent Club night which is Wednesday this week and is very approachable for chats.

I tend to have my SSE's annual service at 18 months, as my annual mileage is between 2 and 3k miles, at this point the oil hasn't had a chance to discolour yet

Thanks for all your advice, all sounds very sensible and I think given the low mileage this past year, a simple oil and oil filter change will suffice.
