Servicing/Pricing

Times are indeed a changing. I have just had my annual service at my local PC because the cost was no greater than going to an independent. I have had issues with two independents after repair work in the last two years, so I was more than happy to try the PC this time. As always very helpful, parts discounted by virtue of PCGB membership, and the engineer has 25 years service so he knows his way round a 993. Thus far very happy because the car feels so so good.
The only snag is I was almost seduced by a new Cayman S in the showroom. These are as near a perfect replacement for a beautiful 993 as you can get in my humble opinion. The question is do I go for a young and beautiful nubile or stay with a creature more fitting for a flat cap and crumpled cords.. No contest really. Sad but true. I hope this does not start a squabble.

Don't know how tall you are but I could never find a good driving position in a cayman. Besides, I hated with a passion the nannying safety bits on the thing. I still need a car that bites!

I would be interested in the servicing price when compared to independents. My local PC wants 800 pounds + for 24k

+3...

Buy the Cayman and lose your shirt in depreciation faster than you can count 1-2-3.... but I am biased...

Your asking the opinion on the 993 forum? Ask the same question on the Cayman forum and see what their answer is![:D]

Also, at the last club night out at an OPC there was a brand spanking new engine waiting to go into a Cayman that was, if memory serves me, only about 18 months old. The mechanic, sorry technician, did say that the engine could have been re-built but Porsche wanted it to examine it as a whole rather than just get the broken bits. The only good thing about it was that it was under warranty.

I'll stick with my tried and tested 993 thanks.

Well, as expected a wonderful vote for my cap and cords. They and it are extremely comfortable and a joy to use. I have to agree it would be an expensive move in potentially more ways than one. I gather the new engine is a big improvement though. As to cost, I was quoted £350 for the annual service. New rear discs and pads and a cam cover renewal lifted the price somewhat.. Other intervals will be more expensive. Location Happy Hampshire.

Our local PC has Scheduled service maintenance cost published in a flyed (ie Menu priced servicing)
for most of the older models - this includes the 993[;)]

Sorry, I just find the Cayman ugly, especially from the rear 3/4 view. I'm sure it's very competent though.
