Servicing/upgrading in Cheltenham area.

Not exactly in the area, and someone might be able to do better for you, but Steve Bull in Devizes or Ray Northway near Reading.

I also need somebody to install an S2 engine into my car. Then be able to deal with any forthcoming problems so that I don't end up wishing I had been happy with 163 bhp.

Hi Nicholas, Worth talking to Peter Empson. He's sure to be along soon, and has put an S2 engine in a Lux so knows all the shortcuts. Having learned them the hard way. [&:] I'd agree with Fen, can't think of anyone nearer - but for a job this size I'd consider travelling a bit to get the right person would be better than saving a few miles.

Hi Nicholas and welcome! I can suggest a couple of people who have done S2 transplant before. This saves a lot of hassle in the long run and hopefully a lot of money too. Whilst I'm the last person to discourage such acts of lunacy I would add that I did mine only after my brakes, tyres and suspension were very well sorted. This is possibly slightly less of an issue for a 100% road car, but that's a debate in itself. It is not really an economicaly sensible thing to do as I'm sure you're aware, but it is a lot of fun! Mine cost quite a bit more than intended and we'd done a fair bit of research before hand, so I recommend going into it with your eyes wide open. S2's are now so cheap I would strongly recommend simply buying one instead, but if you have other reasons for sticking with your current 944, like I did, then why not go for it!

Lunacy is a good word and one that I have sometimes been guilty of with cars. It was a well thought out plan to go for an early appearance car, fit Fuchs etc, for a classic style look and then go for more power. I've almost sorted the braking, handling, looks etc. so soon the power. Not sure if to fit the 924 turbo badge panel with vents that's on a shelf in my garage.

I recommend you do, that's really where the air filter needs to go and there's no other good route for getting cold air into it. You'll have to use a cone filter as the S2 airbox is too tall and doesn't fit under it. It also looks great [;)]

Have fitted Spax shorter front springs and adjusted the rear accordingly. Am fitting Bilsteins and rebushing. Brakes are EBC pads, new discs, stainless steel hoses. I've been told that should be sufficient but we'll see.

Whats it like adjusting the rear torsion bar? Ive fitted some koni adjustable to the rear of my car and I was thinking about a new setup at the front to lower it a bit.

My guess is if you're not tracking it then the brakes should up ok, but would strongly recommend upgrading the pads when they wear out and using only the best brake fluid.

ORIGINAL: ocallen I've just moved into Cheltenham, can anybody recommend a good specialist in the area please ?
