Servicing!

Any thoughts re pros and cons of using OPC or Independent Servicing? When my car is due for next service (major), the Porsche warranty would have expired. Confidence in OPC recently questioned when I took it in for an MOT, only to discover they take the cars to a high street garage several miles away! []Is this uncommon? Thanks, Paul

Indy EVERY time for me! .....as long as you can find a good one!

Nothing surprises me about what OPC's get up to these days. OPC used plastic garden ties to hold some things together on my car - which I discovered after having it delivered! []

Paul
where abouts are you?
I'm sure that someone will come along with a good indy in your area.

My car is coming up for a service and I've decided to go the other way - from highly regarded Indy to OPC.

I feel the Indy is totally overrated, and works out as the same price as my OPC. My Opc is much closer, I get a courtesy car, and you get the OPC stamp in the book and any future buyers would be able to get a warranty if they want (not for long in my case)

All OPCs take their cars to a local MOT centre. If they offered an MOT service themselves they would be legally obliged to MOT all makes of cars. I don't think that would go down too well with OPC customers parking next to clapped out Ford Fiestas!

I agree with Rodney.

It's uneconomic for Porsche Centres to do MOT's, but I don't see why that should adversely reflect on the standard of work they do undertake. Incidentally, most don't fit windscreens themselves either.

OPC or Indy - a matter of personal choice, but if you're using an Indy on a recent car to save money, it would as be as well to add something onto the cost to reflect the likelihood of lower residuals as buyers will look for OPC servicing history.

There'll be less emphasis on this for older, lower priced cars, so a good Indy should be OK, but then again, it all depends on the individual doing the work and that's another story! [8|]

Regards,

Clive.

I live near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. The car is 997 CS2 2006, only 11,000 miles. I did not realise that outsourcing MOT's was common practice. The OPC at Silverstone where I took it did say that in the near future they would have the facility to conduct tests on site. I like the idea of an OPC servicing the car, but from looking at pricing list for Indy, it does look appealing especially on the major service.

OPC Hatfield do MOTs.

And my experience is that they don't cost much more than local Indy garages and yes you do get the courtesy car which is currently a shiny new boxster 981 .and as Clive says the opc stamp is still worth something come resale( though less so on older cars obviously).as yours is such low mileage though,it may well command higher price so may still be worth going the opc route( depending on the opc I guess)

In my case I'll be getting a VW Passat manual! After I was previously given 2 Cayennes and a 987 I'm not best pleased!
