Sewing machine Click-clack noise

Hi,

had windows down going through a narrow lane - and now hear a click/clack metal noise,

Frequency of the clicks etc. speeds up / slows down with road speed.
Any ideas what this might be?

Only noticed it when driving in a straight line,
not noticed any heavy clicks on turning - so don't think it's a front CV joint.
Car is highish miles - 120k

Tappets?

Any ideas fo shorterm / longterm solution
different grade of oil?

Thanks for any suggestions

Unlijkely to be tappets if it is road speed related.
I would start by jacking up the car and checking the tyres. Inner and outer sidewalls as well as the thread.

I once had a problem like this on my BMW. It turned out to be a large piece of masking tape stuck to the tyre tread.
