SFR MAP Induction pipe

After about two months my SFR induction pipe finaly turned up [:)]. Sooner than Rick's pipe from Danno granted but still a long time when expected within ten days of order []

Fitting was all very straightforward but only because I'd already purchased a 50-70mm hose to fit between the pipe and the turbo. SFR did provide a hose but at 75mm internal diameter it didn't fit anything [] (Do we see a pattern emerging here?)

I had to drill a hole in the top of the pipe to recieve my original temperature probe but this was to be expected.

I also had to fabricate an elbow to reconnect the oil vapour pipe, and use some pipe and clips I had available, as the original pipe wouldn't reach. The elbow was formed by heating up a section of plastic conduit and bending it with a pipe spring inside. This will be replaced with a blue Samco elbow when I get round to ordering it.

The yellow tape to he right of the dump valve is by way of padding to stop the dump valve knocking/rubbing on the side of the expansion tank. This has now been removed and the dump valve - which now vets to atmosphere - is held off the expansion tank with a zip tie.

Does it work? Oh yes!

There is now a very pleasant, and noticable, induction growl under load and the engine seems to rev much more freely. I've not had much of a chance to boot it so far but this morning surprised myself by hitting the rev limitter in second and third as I pulled away from a local Chav. Even with the shift light I got caught out as it seemed to rev through much faster than I remember previously.

Beaky is currently running a custom Wayne MAP DME chip but I do have a second generation UK spec Guru MAP chip sitting on my desk which I may as well stick in now. The specification on which the Wayne chip was created has now changed, obviously, and I get the feeling that I should get more power from the Guru chip. [:)] How I wish I had got round to sorting my Lambda probe now. [8|]

It all looks very tidy under there [:)]

350 maybe with the 2nd Gen Map? [:-] maybe I should have put my money on you

Thanks Paul, it's getting there but I still have a lot of work to do yet.

As for 350 bhp? I don't know. I hope to get hold of Rick's #55's which should go a way towards it but I will then be hampered by the baby turbo. I also have a hiss under boost which could be pressure escaping and robbing power.

We did see IRO 300bhp when Wayne blew the chip but this was after a very hard day on the rollers with Beaky heat soaked to hell, and with the old MAP induction. The fact that I can feel a difference with the new induction means that there must be more there.

I agree it looks good - much better than the weird K&N in place of the original airbox set-up.

Thanks Fen - I think.

I take it that you don't want to make me an offer on my redundant induction kit then.

Erm.... I think I'll stick with my MAF - your old one just wouldn't look the same on my garage floor [8|]

I was thinking about your current dump valve set up, when ticking over does the vacuum not open it thus letting unfiltered air into the intake?
Otherwise very nice,
Tony

I don't know. I was assuming it was a one way opperation but I am about to get on to Demon Tweeks for a Bailey non-recirc any way. I could put another nice shiny K&N on the end of the current one though [8|]. May the gawoosshhh be with you.

As an aside - Tad of wheel spin as the boost came in leaving the pub yesterday?[;)] You yob, I'd have thought your dearly beloved would have kept you in hand.

[:)]

Well I was driving away gently (after my beloved had so nicely warmed it (the car!) up for me [;)] ) and there were loads of cal i bra drivers with noses pressed against the window so it seemed some performance should be demonstrated - With it being a closed road it was asking to be done.

The EBC works very nicely, maybe 350 isn't that far away on these colder wet days.

Tony

C'mon Tony, time for a nice write up of the install and how it works (in a new thread of course )

I couldn't get to Reading but was itching to see the EBC in action

I will do a write up, but there isn't much to write once I worked out where to put it. It builds boost faster and holds it to the red line - nice ;)
