Slightly late notice I'm afraid, but this interesting new venue is in our region and their opening is just a week away.

A world exclusive for Newport Pagnell will be the unveiling of the first Retro styled Shell retail shop in Newport Pagnell. Magic of Motoring Limited, global custodians of the Shell brand pre-1980, based locally in Milton Keynes, will be celebrating the Grand Opening on Sunday the 21st March with a display of exotic cars, trucks and bikes.

Magic of Motoring have developed an exclusive range of official vintage clothing, artwork and apparel and for the first time it will be available from the High Street. The range includes the '60 Collection', a celebration of Shell's successful partnership with Ferrari. The official Shell Art Collection (largely unseen for decades and now faithfully reproduced by the original Cambridge-based!). Not forgetting the popular Shell race suits, 'Pit Lane' mechanic's overalls and the 'Executive Collection' including leather bags, gloves and cases.

Aston Martin Works Service, Porsche GB and Classic Porsche Specialist Export 56 will be supporting the event which takes place from 11.00am through to 6.00pm. MK Dons chairman Pete Winkleman and ex Leicester, Norwich and England footballer Darren Eadie will be cutting the ribbon at 1.00pm.

Activities will be based around the shop on the High Street with a display 50 vintage Scooters parked alongside a 1950's Petrol Pump Island. Further displays of motoring exotica will take place in the courtyard of The Swan Revived Hotel which includes a stunning line up of important race and road going Aston Martins and Porsches. One of the stars of the show will be Sir Paul McCartney's Aston Martin DB6.

The Porsche display includes some milestones in Porsche history including the Mario Andretti Porsche 962, the famous Betty Haig 1951 Porsche 356 PreA, an original 550 Spyder and a very rare 1955 Continental Cabriolet (the only one in the UK with a fascinating history!)

Rare Export 56 Porsche cars will also be on display from the Garages at the back of the Swan Revived Hotel - including 1953 Pre-A Coupe, 1959 356A Coupe (RHD), 1960 356 Super 90 coupe (RHD) and a 1962 356 race car. During the 1960's AFN ran a weekly parts collection service between Isleworth and Stuttgart and the 'AFN' Porsche VW panel van, also on display, will doubtless be very popular with enthusiasts.

In the overflow car park, Magic of Motoring will have a display of famous Shell liveried Trucks and Race Transporter as well as a further display of classic cars and a unique display of vintage cycles courtesy of Roy Pink Cycles.

I can't actually make this opening myself - will be at OPC Cambridge.

I was quite excited when I first saw this e-mail last week (thanks Steve!) but I realised it wasn't QUITE was I was expecting. There have been plans for some time for the Shell garage at Woad Corner, just outside Newport on the Stoke Goldington Road to be rebuilt as the "Ace Cafe"-type venue and, I must admit, THAT'S what I thought this e-mail was all about.

It was only when I read it in some detail did I realise that it's not. What this is, I suspect, is a stop gap measure to use a shop in NP High Street to get the retail business going and to use the Swan Revived Hotel as a base for the opening event.

I'm assuming that the Woad Corner development is still going to happen but I fear the retail shop is not going to benefit us in any way that the Woad Corner development was expected to.

I think Mike Pink has been a lot closer to the Woad Corner development than I so I may have got this all wrong and perhaps he may be able to enlighten us further.

Given the parking nightmare that is Newport Pagnell High Street I can't imagine it's worth trying to battle the crowds to attend.

If anyone knows better please let us know.

Regards

Dave

Hi All

I have been sent quite a lot of info about this event as a good friend of mine in involved in the venture.

As far as I know, this is more than a stopgap (although the Woad Corner development has indeed been delayed due to the economic downturn) and part of a wider plan to open this style of retail outlet in the UK and across the world.

These guys have got significant rights to the Shell Brand for use in clothing and merchandise and have been promoting this worldwide.

Having said all that, the more interesting pieces for me are......

- The display of cars on the day and the chance to meet like-minded people
- Supporting ventures like this could hasten the development of places like Woad corner - a good thing for any car enthusiast!

Anyway, I will definitely be going there on Sunday - having run the Sport Relief 5k in the morning [:)]

Parking in the very centre of Newport Pagnell can be a problem but there are various places within 5 mins walk so don't let that put you off.

Look forward to seeing any R10'ers there [:D]

Cheers,

Ravi

There used to be public parking behind the Swan Revived - accessed from a right turn as you go up the the road running up to the High Street from the old Aston Martin Works.

Spoke to Mick Pacey. Woad Corner is still on the blocks, but delayed again by the environmental issues. This retail outlet and show room should be worth seeing, including the display cars and bikes.[:)]

Sunday parking should be fine - there are several car parks off the main roads. [8|]

I'm hoping to be there around 4pm.
