Shell V Power Fuel

Has anyone else noticed a much better power / response when running on shell V power compared to other higher octane fuels , or is it all in my mind??

Don't use any other petrol. Shell V Power gives better performance, better mileage, and better engine care than any other fuel.

I use V power all of the time, and certainly think she runs better on it. Supposed to be cleaner for the engine as well, so its a bonus. I like to spoil the old girl.lol.

I use Costco Premium 99, 10p a litre cheaper with no difference in performance, does appear to run a little smoother but as above could be placebo affect, however I ran V Power religiously in all my performance motors until Coscto came along.

I've found over the years that my 968 is happier on 99RON than on 95RON, but no noticable difference between VPower, BP Ultimate or Tesco Moventum. A year or more back there was an (?) Autotrader test of the various high octane petrols, and Moventum came out best! Locally my choice is Tesco or BP, as Shell closed their local petrol station.

I use this and the Tesco 99 jobby depending on availability.

Can't feel any difference between the 2.

I've had no perceived difference between the premium brands (991.2 S). The Tesco one should give slightly better fuel consumption given its higher RON, but it will be so small as to be undetectable at the % level difference between the brands.

I've been using Shell V-Power in the tank for the last 4 fill ups, before that was using either BP Ultimate or the higher RON Esso version. Not noticed a huge benefit but there does seem to be a slight one. But yes, could just be the canny marketing providing a great placebo...

I tend to use Momentum or V Power and can't tell the difference between them. A few years ago I had a supercharged S4 and ran it on BP Ultimate, whilst remapping the tuner logged 418 bhp the dyno and suggested I drain the tank and fill with Momentum. An hour later the car was up to 442bhp........

Really?? That's interesting , most people don't think it's possible to see a difference in power on fuel grade alone, I'm really curious about this subject but we can only go on what we read I suppose. I'd love to find out more on this subject. ??

I believe this is more to do with the car and type of mapping used. The Audi S4 has a supercharged V6 and regularly achieve c440 when mapped with a high flow air filter added. Tuning company were adamant the fuel on this engine is critical. Unless they were holding back for some odd reason I saw a big jump by adding Momentum 99.

I'm the same, i use it for the sake of it. Ive been told by people in the trade that there is no real difference but i did run some tuned imprezza's and they did seem to run better on the high octane fuel rather than standard.

There was quite a thorough test by Vicky Butler Henderson on Fifth Gear some time ago. Sure it could be found on YouTube. I recall that v power did quite well...

Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTaBngvsPrc

The test measure power output on a rolling road using a VW Golf GTI (as a petrol hopefully without a defeat device....) as shown on the attached.

Of course a lot of people in this thread have mentioned how the engine response was "crisper" with V-Power which isn't reported on in the program, nor is any potential engine cleaning that the premium fuel suppliers claim.

I don't have a shell garage nearby to try v-power but the Boxster 986 S and the 911 996 both seem quite happy on Esso 97 octane.
