Woooooooooooooooo Hoooooooooo

After a month of waiting, just collected our 968 CS from 911 Sport in Lincon. Had a great drive back.
Well impressed with Phil @ 911 a very honest and helpful guy. The delay since purchase was to allow them to move units, and service the car.

Drove the car from Lincon to Cheltenham so a bit of time to get to know each other, had a hoot at each roundabout... Will say I would worry in the wet a bit [8|]

welcome to the 968 fraternity Ian, will you be bringing it to the 968 meet at Oulton Park on the 18th March.

It would be great to come and meet some other owners, I will have to see how the work thing is going though [:'(][:'(]

A few quick observations.

It has a couple of items I've noticed, nothing major.... But there looks like a small bit of water coming from the expansion tank, almost like the cap is not good, the water just sits on the top of the tank, never on the floor. The temperature gauge also doesn't move much beyond the first white mark, although the fans cut in and out fine. Have ordered a new cap just in case.

There is also some noise when first started in the morning that sounds like a bearing of some form in the front of the engine, but goes quiet when run for a bit.... Will keep an eye on this !!

Tail gate pins are also a bit naff, so ordered a repair kit from Porscheapart.

But yes, I am happy, its fair to say its quick.... But not a toy in the wet [;)]

Welcome to the world of the 968. Hope you had time to drive it in the fine weather this weekend.

Wth the right tyres, its a fantastic drive in the wet - as long as you are not silly of course.

Also, check out the following 968 resource as it's a lot busier than the PCGB forum.

Yes, have done about 300 miles. Weather here is not good, rain rain...[]

It has Continental tyres on at the moment, have been told they are not the best...

I had 2 brown-trousers moments with my Contisport 2's - which, to be fair, were pretty worn. I now use Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's which are fantastic for every day use. Nice soft side wall gives a much improved ride over the Conti's, too. They are fab once scrubbed in properly. Not ideal for track work though.

968 engines aren't the sweetest when cold - a lot of them sound a bit rattley - I could have sworn that there was something loose in my engine for the whole three years I owned it, but two of the best specialists in the country thought it sounded perfectly normal!

Tail gate pins - common problem, easy to sort - not sure what any repair kit would contain? You just need to loosen the nut at the base of the pin, then use something to grip the pin with and turn it to the correct length - finding the correct length is the tricky part - it can take a bit of time. Then just tighten the nut again!

Get the contis off if you are driving in the wet regularly. I had contis on mine but rarely drove it in the wet. They are fine in the dry, but the general consensus is that the Goodyears are the best suited tyre for these cars.

Good luck, and have fun!

Ian , great car, great choice. I still miss mine. Re the back end on the drive home. When I first got mine I thought it was me getting used to the front engine/rear drive thing again after years of nose heavy audi's, but, after Hartech sorted out the geometry it was totally different, it just gripped and gripped. also a droning from the rear I thought was the diff disappeared.
Grant explained it with angle's and camber's and stuff. Even better if you fit a M030 rear anti roll bar and rubbers !

Cheers

I would really recommend that a knowledgeable specialist does your alignment. It is probably more expensive, but these cars are quite sensitive to set-up so it is best done by someone with a lot of experience of 968's. I don't know a huge amount about the intricacies of it all, but the impression I get is that it is easy for an untrained hand to bugger it up!
