She's coming home

I can't contain my self anymore so just had to post that I am shortly leaving home to catch a train down to Christchurch to pick up LIL [:D] The bad news is while she was away they have upgraded the Vitesse software and yesterday she spent the day on the dyno having the timing perfected for her 3.2 engine and Jon informs me she is even more powerful than before. Yikes, I couldn't cope with the power before []

He kept me in suspense and wouldn't tell me the exact figure yesterday but I'll be bringing home the charts this afternoon. Watch out for a blue streak on the A34 traveling northwards this lunchtime (I only hope I can find some V-Power :ROFLMAO:

Once she is finally parked in my garage I'll be organising this years 944 Dyno Day - I saw Chris from Weltmeister last week and saw his new setup with an identical Dyno Dynamics rolling road as before.

Good for you.
Do you still run the original exhaust or have "upgraded" to something different (sorry, haven't followed all details on your car in the last months) ?

That's great news was wandering when you get it back.
My car has only been in the bodyshop for 2 weeks and I really badly miss it already only another 4-6 weeks to go then another week or 2 after that for service, clutch change and KW V3s fitted can't wait until I get it back

Thats great news Paul-look forward to seeing Lil. Let us all know the new power
figures.
Cheers
Ron
p.s. Promax did service, geometry check-reckoned clutch was ok-so good news.

Great news Paul!!! The long waits border on torture but are soon forgotten when you have it safely back home. Look forward to seeing the results and more video of the 'New' car. [:D]. Timely too, as I've just started a thread on Rennlist lamenting the lack of project cars to read about. Nice to see something in here too.
Watch your right foot for a while....oh what the heck, plant it son!

Nice one Paul !!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see it sometime soon, Let us know the performance when you are back

Wil

Ahh the suspense!

Sitting here in the South Atlantic waiting for an update - hoping its so good you are just running up the miles [:)]

Sorry guys, spent the day watching Le Mans and then cleaning and polishing her inside and out, it's amazing just how much dust, crud and grime builds up on a cream (linen) coloured interior when your car is away for a year.

There is definately more power and torque than when she went away. I know this because the high boost has been increased to 18 psi from 17 psi and if I give it full bananas in the higher gears the clutch is definately being overcome. The sticky R rated 275s on the back refuse to spin once they are warmed up but I have taken them off today and put the road wheels back on so I can repaint the scuffed ones. She was given a heavy stress test to simulate trackday use on the Dyno and the new timing settings have prevent spark plug problems even at the higher boost level [:)]

However, it's going to be a while before she is back to her former glory [:(] because I have a list of at least 20 things to sort out. Lot's of odd things have stopped working due to the bang - drivers seat electrics, wideband sensor, mileometer reset, oil pressure gauge etc. I also have a few things to paint myself and many of the rubber seals are deeply ingrained with bodyshop polish that I'll have to clean. Lot's of little things are missing like drainage tubes, trim clips, undertray bits n bobs etc

The main thing is she is finally back [:)] but please don't ask me to recommend a good bodyshop [;)]

BTW the new Big Black brakes feel amazing [8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]

I thought you were receiving the charts when you picked her up?? What clutch/pp/flywheel setup do you have Paul? If it's stock, you'll definitely need to beef it up.
Great to have her back though. It's the only item I like cleaning. [:)]

Yes I've got the charts, but they are RWHP only so I can't easily compare with my Flywheel HP charts from previously. The RW HP is up from 335HP to 347HP and the RW torque is up from 395 ftlb to 420 ftlb. Peak power is made at 4700rpm and peak torque is at 4000rpm, it is at this point that the clutch starts to slip when I have the track tyres on. The clutch is the factory 'Cup' clutch and is wonderfuly light and easy to use - I have no plans to change it unless I converted the car to be track only.

I'm off out to do some more cleaning now [:)]

The SPECS clutch isn't that bad once its worn in, but then you may end up ripping you gear box and drive shafts to bits. [8|]

so 400 ish.

....and the RW torque is up from 395 ftlb to 420 ftlb....

That's just silly. I think I'd be looking to trade of a bit of the torque for power (not that you haven't got enough already). The torque is being wasted anyway because of the clutch but power will give you more top end on the track.

That's true. In fact the change to the timing has delayed the torque a little bit and the peak is about 500rpm further up the rev range than before. I don't think there is much more that can be done by tuning alone to lower the torque, I believe you'd possibly be looking at a bigger exhaust or intake to improve the breathing and power and reduce torque a little [&:]

Tonights cleaning is all finished:- leather seats cleaned and fed, all vinyl soaked in Zymol vinyl conditioner, and I've managed to clean all the white polish out of the exterior trim and cleaned it up with some trim dressing [:)].

As a treat I have refitted my road wheels that I've freshly painted in black gloss (which means I have no excuse not to paint the scratched up track wheels now [8|] )

and here is the obligatory picture of the Big Black brake callipers and disks

The torque is up as would be expected from refining the timing but in order to increase bhp the air flow restrictions need to be removed as the results would suggest that you are now reaching the limits of the stock setup.

Glad you finally have your car back Paul, my advice just get it the way you want it i.e. fix all the little niggles, and enjoy it for the summer!!
