Shift rod tip

Last weekend I replaced the nylon parts on my shift linkage .Initially I thought the tip of the shifter rod had come loose, the tip is steel or maybe even s/steel and fits inside the end of the tube, the tube being hollow. On closer inspection there is a small pin which goes through the tube and the tip to hold it in place. The purpose of renewing the nylon was to eliminate play so when I saw this I thought this could be attributing to my problem.
Hence my question is this.Does anyone know if this play is intentional before I weld it up.
The way the tip is fixed its as if there is supposed to be movement here.

Thanks in advance.

Wish I could help. I've worked on both ends of my linkage and have no idea what your problem is or could even be.
Infact, I wonder if it could be a special part for a cab? I know the engine mount is different for example.

Nathan, Ive since found out from the guys on pelican that there should not be any play here.Basically its the rod that runs from the cup housing under the gear shift and connects into the shift coupler between the rear seats.Well the end that inserts into the cup has come loose thus excacerbating the play in the gear shift. So hopefully there should be some improvement when I fix this. The guys over on pelican reckon this is a common fault and should be checked especially if you like to track your car . I'll post some photos over the weekend if I get a chance.
