I am in the process of getting my 996 ready to ship to OZ within the next few months , the only worry is battery life and being flat on arrival after 6-9 weeks at sea! Can anyone help with anything that will keep life in the battery, not locking the doors, leaving the front lid off latch so they can get to the battery etc. Has anyone got any ideas please?

I would be inclined to disconnect the battery. Not sure if the alarm system can be disabled easily via diagnostics - probably not a good place to post if you can. I get the impression that there are minor differences between 996.1 and 996.2 in how the alarms operate - someone should be able to clarify.

Disconnect the battery, there's no way I can think of it will last the journey otherwise - I think you'll find you may have to do this for container shipping anyway - make leave the bonnet on the latch, or at least make sure you can get to the emergency release cable under the wing liner in case someone helpfully presses it shut!

Safe travels.

Hi Brad,
IF you disconnect battery make sure ignition is turned to position 1 or alarm will go off....
I'm sure you don't have to have ignition lights on....
On arrival if bonnet has been closed use the +ve connector in fuse box & door strike plate to connect a donor battery to open bonnet....
At least that way car has been kept secure on its journey....

Be aware that Australian import are picky about the car having been pressure washed to remove all traces of European dirt before arrival - and has a certificate with the car to prove this! My son shipped his Midget to Freemantle via Roro out of Southampton, the shippers were supposed to clean the car before loading, but there was no cert when it arrived - cost him quite a lot for the compulsory clean on importation!

Under the front wing there is a wire to release the bonnet Julius F says
Make sure this is accessible maybe even hanging out
the +ve connector is the other way once you get the car open

Don't forget others will need to access the car unless you send it in a container

LOts og good advise on this thread
