shock absorbers

can anyone tell me how long shock absorbers typically last (my car has done 130k miles). My ride feels a bit "lumpy" on a rough road, but since I havent driven another 944 I don't know if mine is normal.

Is it an expensive job to have them all changed at a independant specialist?

I replaced mine at 145k and they were vastly improved with new ones. My 964 has 133k on it and I will replace them on it ASAP.

I'd say maybe £750 to drive in and out again with new suspension fitted if you're staying with standard stuff.

I recently had the "inserts" on my front shock absorbers replaced after 150k, and it made a great difference. Bilstein parts I believe. My local garage did the work for well under £100.

If you decide to go the non-standard / budget route give these guys a try: http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ I have no connection with them but they do seem good value.

I've recently bought (although not yet had delivered) AVO adjustable shocks & lowered spring kit and the complete SPAX kit looks very good value.

Worth a punt as not a lot of money in the 'Porsche' grand scheme of things!

I think fronts might as well, certainly 87 on ones dont fit on an 86 car despite the aluminium arms etc. Bert Gear will know,

Why dont you look at some online retailers and see if there is a separate shock for the early and late model 944 lux's.

Good idea, but online fitment lists are terrible (and seldom accurate). 944 front struts changed for the 1985 model year (last of the 924 dash cars), but that said: they may still fit. I cant remembernow, but Bert will probably know.
