Shocking behaviour

Just a quickie (oo-er)!

Changed my HT leads to Magnecor KV85s today and whilst checking everything was working ok I noticed part of the lead routing needed strightening out. In doing so, I managed to pull the lead off the plug and give myself 2 healthy jolts that stopped me yawning straight away.

This only happened when I pulled the lead off the plug (but as you can guess I'm not really up for stroking the HT leads whilst the engine is running just yet) so I take it all is well and not to worry or is there something wrong with the leads?

Thanks in advance, BZZZZ !

Theres a very high voltage on those leads, even though they are insulated once the plug is off and your arm is the best path back to the neg of the battery theres plenty voltage to drive a small current through you :D. If they weren't new leads you might think the insulation was degraded but I think its just due to the high voltage. It wont happen when its plugged into the spark as theres a nice low resistance path through the engine block and back to the battery neg. I would stick em back on :D and spin it over.

When we were 16 and sat at traffic lights on our mopeds, a standard joke was to reach over and whip your mates HT lead off just before the lights changed....one day I tried it in the rain and ended up in a heap on the floor...Doh! []
