Shocking

I have been assuming that the light feel / floating is more the setup but has occurred to me my suspension / shocks may be at the end of their life.

I believe the whole package was fitted in 2005 but has only done around 20-25,000 miles since - a combination of a couple of tracks and regular commuting / long drives.

How long would shocks normally last?

Thats what I was thinking..... :) So, must be down to the geo!

Bit of a naive question, but apart from the general feel of the car which degrades slowly over time, is there a particular way you can tell if the shocks have had it?

There naturally very stiff so the old 'bounce test' wont work!

Geo, tyres, suspension bushes, ........

Symptoms of worn shockers are excessive roll in cornering, nose dive in braking/squat on acceleration, and 'wheel skipping' on bumps in corners. Difficult to tell on cr*p road surfaces with 996 suspension though.

If you can get a good look at the shock unit, you may see some signs of leakage, but in amongst road grime etc might not be too conclusive !

After 5 years bushes will be deteriorating at various points in the suspension too - all depends how much was renewed in 2005, and whether you still have some original bushes
