Shocks!

I was told at my MOT that the front NS shock has just started to leak. Its not a major problem at the mo but will need doing fairly soon (car is mainly driven at weekends now...does about 50-100 miles a week). Where is the best place to buy the shocks and how much will they cost? Am willing to fit slightly stiffer no tsandards but not at massive expense.

Also, rumbling at low speeds so I guess bearings are on their merry way (though not slack), so how much and where from again?

Also need to get new hoses (by pass hose kit or something...some upgrade I've heard of) for my power steering fluid filler. It's making a right mess now and need to get it sorted. So again, where and how much?

Ideally one source would be best...

You don't say which model you have.

I just replaced all my shocks with OEM units (fitted myself).

I bought the rears from Stu at Eurocarparts (see sticky at top of this section) for under £85 delivered to my door.

Just after I ordered the fronts from Porscheshop, I was pointed towards Design911 who were significantly cheaper (under £100 a side for S2 OEM Sachs units)
 
Apologies...its a 1989 2.7. Has S2 wheels on though hence pic may confuse.

If you have insert style front shocks you can buy Blistein shocks that are slightly stiffer than standard and are actually a little cheaper at Porscheshop which means they are probably even cheaper elsewhere as Porscheshop are generally on the pricy side.
 
I have a 2.7 1989. The replacement sachs struts are £59 + VAT from Stuart at Eurocarparts in Leeds. (See the sticky on the front of the listings)

 
In my opinion itll be safer to replace the rears than it would just the fronts, but its not ideal.
 
Not the standard Boge / Sachs units. (Well obviously that's a stupid statement as you can rebuild pretty much anything, but there is no kit available to allow you to rebuild for less £ss than the price of new units).

The optional Koni's can be rebuilt.
 
i'm just wondering as ill be sticking 17 inch wheels on as of tomorrow so would koni's make the car twitchy?
or should i stick with stock for the time being?

The shocks themselves I don't think you can rebuild (bar maybe the M030 suspension), but the front shocks are fitted within the strut. These shocks (which are inserts in the struts) can be replaced with a new shock put within the strut.

It depends how old your fronts are. If they are more than 5-6 years old you will easily notice a difference when you change them for new ones (I believe your '84 car has inserts at the front so are easy and cheap). If they are more than 10 years old you will notice a HUGE difference - it will be like getting into a different car and providing everything else is good (bushes, steering, alignment etc) it will feel like Porsche intended it to when it was built.

They will have been pretty much knackered about 10 years ago.

Yes they still work and yes they will pass an MOT but they are hiding a fine handling sportscar under there. Your car is possibly about to become much sweeter than you know [:)]
 
If you can do all 4.

I had 1 front starting to weep slightly and have a friend who works for Sachs Boge, he got me their Gas versions all round at a very good price and the difference is amazing!

Ive just fitted Konis all round and there is a huge difference over the standard shocks. Along with bigger ARB's my car is much improved.
