Shocks!

The Rears Shock on my Car are pretty worn, i looked under the car yesterday and they are very rusted too, should i change all 4 shocks? or just the back, baring in mind im sticking to stock suspension stuffs?

In my opinion itll be safer to replace the rears than it would just the fronts, but its not ideal.
 
Not the standard Boge / Sachs units. (Well obviously that's a stupid statement as you can rebuild pretty much anything, but there is no kit available to allow you to rebuild for less £ss than the price of new units). The optional Koni's can be rebuilt.
 
i'm just wondering as ill be sticking 17 inch wheels on as of tomorrow so would koni's make the car twitchy? or should i stick with stock for the time being?

The shocks themselves I don't think you can rebuild (bar maybe the M030 suspension), but the front shocks are fitted within the strut. These shocks (which are inserts in the struts) can be replaced with a new shock put within the strut.

It depends how old your fronts are. If they are more than 5-6 years old you will easily notice a difference when you change them for new ones (I believe your '84 car has inserts at the front so are easy and cheap). If they are more than 10 years old you will notice a HUGE difference - it will be like getting into a different car and providing everything else is good (bushes, steering, alignment etc) it will feel like Porsche intended it to when it was built.

They will have been pretty much knackered about 10 years ago. Yes they still work and yes they will pass an MOT but they are hiding a fine handling sportscar under there. Your car is possibly about to become much sweeter than you know [:)]
 
If you can do all 4. I had 1 front starting to weep slightly and have a friend who works for Sachs Boge, he got me their Gas versions all round at a very good price and the difference is amazing! Mike
 
Ive just fitted Konis all round and there is a huge difference over the standard shocks. Along with bigger ARB's my car is much improved.
