Evening all !

Just found this ont' tinternet - thought I'd share it, as for me as a keen tinkerer and spanner wielder, I always think in terms of spanner size rather than thread/ M size.

Great little find that Chris, very interesting. I had never thought about the torque used to pre-load the bolt and hold two flanges together as well as carrying a load![8D]
 
Interesting info Chris. I never understood the numbers on the Bolt head, but was aware a bolt with numbers was a good quality one.

I was taught that "a bolt is only effective over its own diameter" but that would assume the same material. Which is why the steel studs in our Ali engine blocks have 35mm? of thread in the block, but the head is held down by a Steel Nut which is 12mm deep.
