Short journeys

i have 2014 991 Carrera. I often do the station run in it - 3 miles each way. Aware this is not good for it and just changed the battery which has probably suffered from this use pattern. I have placed reserve order for 992 Carrera but i wonder whether any one has knowledge of which engine, my current normally aspirated 3.4 litre or the 992’s new 3.0 litre twin turbo will better tolerate my daily short journey abuse. Weekends give chance for greater usage but that varies week to week. Thanks for your help

Have you thought about using a battery conditioner on a daily basis? I have a 2013 with a conditioner lead permanently attached, a similar usage pattern but plug it in at least once per week and am still on the original battery.

Good to know on the battery. Thanks. i wonder about normally aspirated vs turbo on the short heat cycle/journey.

neither are going to like 3 miles I would suspect - not just the battery but the oil won't warm up properly either and likely storing up engine wear/longevity issues as a result. Think the 992 has exhaust particulate filter in it as well which needs heat to work (ie well warmed up) which isn't going to happen in 3 miles either, storing up more trouble down the line.

Why not get an old banger for a 'station car' and keep the carrera for longer trips/weekends? That comes with the added bonus of not caring about station car park dings or vandalism either.
