Hi all, feeling a little sick as a conrods' just gone through the block on my 944T. Anyone have or know of a good short motor anywhere?
Its an '86 220bhp

many thanks

Ouch....number 2 by chance?.....there's this fire damaged 220 currently on eBay....looking at the engine number it may be an 87...a call to the breakers would confirm this. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-944-Turbo-Engine-944-M44-51-Engine-Porsche-Turbo-Engine-/272136045231?hash=item3f5c9282af:g:BicAAOSwEeFVNSXJ

thanks for the replies. The engine is coming out this week to fully assess whats happened / needed. I may have struck lucky [relatively speaking!] The engine blew while it was being dyno'd. It turns out it didn't seize or lose coolant and the hole is actually in the sump so I'm hoping its a crank bolt thats snapped and fired itself straight out the sump without taking too much of the engine with it.

I'll keep details from above and get back to you as soon as i know for sure what i need.

thanks again

please keep us informed, details of any mods, mileage and use may help others, it's very unusual for an 86 220 to throw a rod, even if heavily modified....if used for track it may be no.2 rod failing which can happen due to how it's oil ways are designed, regular oil changes (far more than specified) and fitting a crank scrapper can offset this flaw somewhat, normal road use shouldn't be an issue. Even if the damage is as you suspect you'd need to do a complete strip down to check for wear and tear, take a close look at the wrist pins and their bushes as I'll bet the bushes are oval and thus need replacing...SerdiUK in Uxbridge would be my choice for any machining work.

will do Pete, thanks.
Its currently showing 99800 odd miles with a thick history file but it did need a load of TLC when i bought it about 3 years ago. I've spent the last 3 years stripping it down to its shell to build a fast track / hill climb car so its only done about 200 miles shuffling around since i've owned it.
I'ts been resprayed, welded cage, new Gaz adjustables, widefire head gasket, upgraded injectors, 3bar FPR, motorsport fuel pump, 9xx DPW, Lindsey Racing steam vent kit, AFM & Boost gauges, Only944 short shifter and shifter and a custom made 3" SS exhaust with ceramic coated manifolds.
In the bonnet I've installed 2 louvred vents to extract heat at the back and front centre I've fitted an extraction scoop to pull out air from the intercooler.
The pop ups have been deleted and I've currently got dual 'street fighter' style lights in custom made buckets fitted [might change for some kind of LED set-up] and I've had a first go at heat forming custom perspex covers which are OK for track work but really need redoing now i've had some practice! I've a GT2 wide body kit painted and ready fit once I get the engine rebuild sorted at which point I'll either need fit some huge spacers or have some wheels made to fill the new blistered arches. Theres also a new wide body front bumper and front splitter to go on and In a moment of weakness i bought a fibreglass bridge spoiler to go with plexi window but that'll be a winter project all on its own to build up and paint properly!

Ive done and still got to do a load of other stuff...plumbed in fire, keyless start, harness, seat etc and sods law after 3 years playing with it I now dont like the colour [grey] and want to change it to something a little more extreme... in a vivid green kind of way!

oh, and how could i forget.. its got a rebuilt K26/8 turbo fitted and was having a custom remap done when it blew something in the bottom end!

The cars my fun when i get an hour free from work and family, last build i did was a backdated 84-73RSR 911 in my profile pic

In fact I'll start this in a new build up thread when i get chance...

rgds,
Nick

Sounds great - I'm having the D9 vents fitted to a spare bonnet currently but would be interested in seeing your centre bonnet scoop for the intercooler as this is something I've been contemplating in th future.

sounds like a fun project Nick, thanks for sharing the details...I'm very surprised that a rod threw with only 99k on the clock....? more so as it seems that the mods to date are relatively mild. As it was on a dyno at the time you should be able to see if you had a boost spike and what your APR was reading.I'm assuming that you are running higher boost with a 9xx DPW fitted, you don't mention how your controlling the boost, manual or electronic? Regarding custom remaps and I'm not suggesting that this was the cause but imho there is only one guy for this and that's Wayne Scofield, he knows the cars inside out, not sure where he's based these days but I'm sure someone does..I will need his services again myself at some point this year...

regards

Pete

Pedro, WS is a friend of my uncle's, so I will be able to get his number over the Easter weekend (MCC Lands End Trial) if youre still looking for it.

Its late and Im tired, but of youre talking about an intercooler exit vent which directs all air out of the engine bay then Im interested too, as I have tried to find a ready made part which will fit and function.

thanks Simon....I have a number but it's a long time since I last called......

cheers

Pete

I think that the problem is getting him to answer it, because he is so busy. When I last had a WS-related conversation with my family, he was preparing for the head of Mugen Honda's visit as he was doing a lot of development work for them!

The 968T RS intercooler discharge incorporates an enclosed duct from the intercooler to the underside of the bonnet, the NACA duct for the air filter intake works the same way. I've seen repro parts for the bonnet but not the ducting.

I've thought about a couple of small vents towards the rear of my bonnet to create some extra airflow and remove heat. The AM Vantage has a well vented bonnet, a couple of the ducts vent heat out above the exhaust manifolds.
