Short shifter

Just had the first drive with a new short shifter in my 986 - feels awesome, nice and tight like new and the throw is so short!

Excellent result.

Mark - I got this one from BM Racing: [link]http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUCTS/Porsche[/link] Though didn't pay anywhere near the price it quotes on their website - see your local eBay for details. [;)]

ORIGINAL: London987 is it true the S's have short shift as standard on the 6 speed box?
Sadly no. The 550 Boxster got a short shift as standard. Although it seemed to depend which country you were in as to what you got. If I recall - The US seemed to get a shorter gear-lever, but the UK got a short-throw shift (there's quite a difference!)

ORIGINAL: London987 so my 987s doesn't have one? ...interesting....seems pretty slick as it is.
There is a marked difference in travel and force between the two. My Cayman had been fitted with it and was a factor in me going for it. I think short shift improves the change and adds to the precision feel that is so much a feature of these cars. You need to try one before comitting though as there is an increase in force over the standard change, but you soon get used to that.

The 987 has a shorter throw lever than the previous 986. It's a tried and tested upgrade for 986 owners to fit the selector assembly from a 987 as a cheaper alternative to a full short shift. The short shift kits reduce the throw still further than the standard 987 , not so marked a difference in a 987 as fitting one in a 986 , as you would expect. The same kit does both models.

Porsche claimed at launch that the 987 gear throw was about 20% shorter than the previous 986 models from recollection.

Without wishing to hijack the thread, how slick should the change be on a 987 2.7 model. I have no real problems with my 06 20,000 mile car, apart from a somewhat 'notchy' change. By that I mean pretty awful, akward 3-2 down and first can be a little tricky unless moving. It's probably not as bad as I'm making out, but not as precise as expected [8|] if that makes sense ?
