Should Front Fogs stay on with main beam?

I fitted a passenger side replacement side/driving/fog light in my S2 this evening and whilst testing it I noticed that the fogs stay on with main beam. I thought fogs usually turn off when main beam is selected. Can anyone confirm expected operation for a MY1990 S2?
I'd like to know for sure because while testing I also found that the light on the driver's side had been wired incorrectly by the body shop when they re-fitted it. I'm hoping they haven't messed something up with their dodgy wiring.

Are you sure you aren't getting confused with the driving lights?

SII's and Turbos have two lights a fog light and a driving light in the same enclosure, side by side.

The fog lights should only come on when you switch them on.

The driving lights have a side light and main beam.

I thought that he was getting confused by the wallys who drive around with sidelights and foglamps on, without dipped bean headlamps.

The fog lights are the ones that come one when you turn the fog light switch on and have reflectors to point the beam down :) What I thought was strange was that you can have the front and rear fogs on with side lights and with main beam (in addition to dip). Hasn't anyone else been stuck behind someone who has left their rear fogs on and every time they put full beam on, the fogs go off, only to come on again when they dip again?

My driving lights come on when I flash or with main beam.
