Should I go or walk away?

I am considering looking at a 03 Turbo Tip this weekend but the vendor has kindly disclosed a few faults shown up by a PPI. He has rectified some of the probs but a few still remain.
1. gear cable stiff
2. Heat shields rusty and fallen away
3. Corroded rear brake pipe
4.3 coil packs split
5.Power steering pipes split where they join rack
6.Drivers seat base collapsed
7.CDC4 auto changer not reading cd'S
8. Battery cover missing
9. 1x key remote faulty

There is also the odd scratch and stone chip but I would consider that ok for a car over 11 years old

He has corrected suspension mounts, aircon condensors, and a rear spoiler problem and has told me that the car has been SORN for periods over the past few years.

Asking price £24500 in good colour and low miles (52k)

Whats the general opinion?

Walk away as you are looking at a lot of money there. And that's the bits you know about! I am quite surprised at the condition. I have the same car, 2003 911 TT, with 42K on the clock and just about everything sorted that could be. What part of the Uk are you in as you could take a look at mine to see what the standard is.

walk on by[:D]

there are loads of very nicely sorted cars that may probably cost you none of the costs you are talking about to put this car straight ,at only 2-3k more.
you are looking at at least £k I would say to correct these things you KNOW about.....

I'm Kingston Upon Thames. Let me know if you are around here. Be pleased to let you see the car. It is usually in Total911 magazine each month as it has a Living the Legend column.

Walk away. Collapsed seat and corroded break pipe could be MOT fails. Sounds like a lot of cash to put right, unless the vendor is prepared to reduce the asking price. In which case get a detailed quote from a reputeable indie and reserve your office subject to an inspection.

Buy a pair of Nancy Sinatra's boots.

£1000 is nowhere near enough to cover those repairs. There are far better ones out there, keep on looking.

Cheers,

Suggest you ask for a copy of the PPI and get a quote from an indie for the repairs. Then check that there are invoices for the repairs done to date. Has it got a good service, mot and invoice history. If your happy after all that make an offer and get an inspection done by a specialist, he can only ing say no.

Any reason why your not looking at the trade stock that's a thousand or so more?

Plenty of turbos to choose from and I suspect all will need some sort of work doing to them bear in mind there are getting on for up to 15 now . view as many as you can to gauge a variety of options and faults . Low miles with full porsche history and you can forgive a car a few faults and negotiate a deal . What colour is the car in question and have you viewed it.

Here I go again banging the drum about managing your own expectations - if you have a reasonable technical understanding of the problems and what you are letting yourself in for AND the price is right then there's nothing wrong with a fixer upper.

However in this case I do tend to agree with what is generally being said above - for the money, most of those boxes should be ticked - I'm surprised at the seat being defunct in a relatively low mileage car - which might mean its been thrashed at some point, the seat condition being due to someones ample rump rolling around in it.

£1k to fix what you know is probably optimistic - I work on £1500 a year for general out of pocket maintenance to my C2; for a turbo I would up that somewhat, and if there's a beastly problem lurking, £5k will disappear in a flash.

Indie report essential, but I'd have to say it doesn't look priced right as it stands.

Good luck.

I'm with JuliasF on this,

PPI reports will more often than not make a mountain out of a mole hill, they have too tell you every slightest detail about the most insignificant things and probably miss the most important.

Ask yourself this what do those guys with clipboards get paid and what is there technical background?.[;)]

No I haven't viewed the car. From the replies I have received I have decided to walk away, I had pretty much already made the decision but getting impartial 2p's has confirmed my thoughts. Thanks guys

Why are you even considering this car

A Porsche should be a well loved creature - with collapsed seat and other problems Sounds a real nail

If it doesn't look right walk away

Just imagine what else is wrong

Problems with Engine 10k Gearbox 5k

There must be good examples around - don't rush it - it could be with you for year

TRAVEL A LONG DSTANCE IF NECESSARY

Regards

Richard

If a fault occurs on this type of car, it needs to be repaired as soon as possible. If a large list of repairs are called for, you have to question it's ownership or indeed how it has been treated. I agree with all others, there is probably better out there.

Hi chr15w

Did you buy a 996 turbo in the end..
I am 911 owner in the Herne Bay area
