Should I keep using OPC's to service Boxster?

Interested in getting views from owners..

The girlfriend has a '99 2.5 Boxster. 2nd owner. Full OPC history to date. 30k miles. Fully specced (full leather/sports seats/climate/18" sport classics etc). Bought from an OPC 3 1/2 years ago.

She is thinking of selling it in about 12 months time, and it needs a service and some fettling now. We have kept it serviced by OPC's for resale value, however I reckon we should swap to specialist - reasoning that by the time we sell it it will be 6 years old and having 2 stamps from GT1 in Chertsey will make no difference to the value vs. 2 stamps from OPC - as long as all original parts used in servicing.

anyone got any useful thoughts/experience on this?

cheers in advance

Matt

Hi Matt

I would suggest getting basic service (and stamp) from OPC and gettimg remainder of the work at a good specialist. I sold my Boxster S earlier this year and first question most people asked was does it have a full OPC history. OK, my car was a little newer but I think it is a nice selling point and basic servicing shouldn't be that much more expensive than specialist. Also allows OPC to warranty it (if the new owner was interested).

I sold my car and the new owner got an inspection and put a warranty on it. She wouldn't have bought the car if this wasn't possible. If you have one service before you sell it will cost you an extra GBP50??

Regards

cheers Yoda

i forgot to explain in my original post - its not the cost thats the issue, but more the fact that my local OPC have given the most appalling service over the last 3 1/2 years - possibly the worst I have ever experienced from any car dealer [][]- and I don't think they spend the time on the car to actually check it over and pro-actively solve problems - all they do is change the oil, stamp the book and wash it (if they can be bothered). this all done with a patronising and obnoxious attitude which appears to follow the thought that entry level Porsche=entry level customer service [:'(].
i am loathe to line their pockets any further. (nearest next OPC is a good hour away, therefore not convenient)

if we were keeping the car for a few years i would have no hesitation in taking it to GT1

three years ago i had the same problem i was very unhappy with the attitude of my local OPC so i phoned around other OPCs and found one that comes and collects my car from my house or work place and dosn't charge me any extra for this..
car is always delivered back to me on time, fully valetted with a tin of mints on the passanger seat and a smiling delivery driver..

I had similar poor experience at an OPC in London so just got the car serviced when I went to visit family in Cardiff - service was nothing short of fantastic. Could make for a nice weekend away .......

Shame isn't it - some people report the shoddiest service imaginable.

Personally i'd stop short of saying I love my OPC (Colchester) but they're pretty wonderful! [:D] I've found the contacts i've made there incredibly helpful and polite. They've invited me to clinics (prior to joining PCGB) and not even flinched at collecting my car when it's due for service even though I live close to 65 miles away.

They've always provided me with a hire car too and a nice smiley chappie to deliver it. My car always comes back shiny and clean. Porsche Bow however got my blood boiling! [>:] Less said the better I think!

Please please - as Helen's said - shop around. There are some really good OPC's out there - you just need to find one. Also, I know you said it's not your priority but when we priced around we found that the servicing from our local specialists didn't work out too differently from our OPC once you factored in the 10% discount you receive for being a PCGB member.

My experience exactly Dawn - I bought my car from Colchester 3 years ago and have experienced fantastic service. I recently moved from Essex to London and have used Bow who are absolutely rubbish by comparison. I think that the London dealers just have too many customers to deal with properly - and also treat you in direct proportion to your car's value and the Chavviness of your demeanour.

If I was a rough-as-a-badgers-arse fake blond footballers wife in a lowered Cayenne Turbo on 20" chrome alloys, I would probably be trested a lot better at Bow....

Edited to say - obviously the last sentance is a rant based made up bit of artistic licence before the legal team from Bow turn up to my house with a violin case.....

Mmmph, given that I live in Nottingham I think I know which is the first OPC mentioned - however more importantly where might I find the one which dishes out the mints [;)]????

cheers for all the advice - anyone got any experience of OPC Reading as I think they are my next nearest?

(either that or I'll go and put in my diamond earrings and biggest wristwatch and go down to Bow [:D])

Gee, shucks...[:)]

I'm more of a Snickers man myself but it's the winning not the taking part that counts!

Hels... How could you possibly think that! It's not like you've got an Aerokit with a big spoiler on the Boxster or anything. Oh hang on....doh![;)]
