Should I stay or should I go?

The AGM weekend has raised some serious doubts as to wether I should continue. The next regional meeting at the coopers arms Weston on trent is May 5th a bank holiday but I would like as many as possible to attend. If you cant attend your support or otherwise in the form of an Email would be appreciated. The reasons for this will be raised at the meeting or by email reply. I thank you for your assisstance in this matter Patrick Bower RO

Patrick don't really understand the post. Getting to regional events is really hard for me with the kids and running businesses through a credit crunch!

If you can email me your doubts I'll happily take the time to drop you a reply on my opinion or thoughts if it helps....for what its worth.

Take care,

J

Hi Davy, the next regional meeting is on the 5th of May at the coopers Arms Weston on trent 7pm for 8pm start

Patrick, I am also in the same position as you.

I'm happy to state in public that I was extrememly unhappy with many of the issues at the AGM, specifically Dennis Holt's attitude, the financial position of the Club and the future of open debate on the forums.

I'm also happy to say that I've taken the time to speak at length with new members of the Board and I am confident that there are changes on the way. I am concerned that the changes might make my position untenable, and am happy to keep these concerns in the open.

I am also considering my position, and will be doing so in full view of this forum, the Porsche Post and personal contact wherever necessary, I will not be asking for personal e-mails or otherwise debating the issues. I hope you will do the same. Sneaky meetings at Region gatherings are not the way to run a democratic Club.

Patrick, don't you go leaving me on my own at that NEC [:(]

I fully understand your sentiments and will remind you that you have to be in it to be able to influence it...
Things at the AGM and the day prior were wrong and the more you hear the more wrong it becomes...

However, never let it come to a point where your own enjoyment is ruined by the club.

Patrick, Paul and Gary

So far the only real feedback I have had from the AGM and the day before is around the attitude of some people and the apparent antipathy towards the Forum which seems to be coming from some quarters. If true then neither of these things sit well with me and,I suspect , many others who are sufficiently motivated to use the forum regularly.

You have referred to some misgivings - is it possible to join the dots up and tell us why?

Your posts have always been sensible and well balanced and your thoughts and opinions would be of value to those of us who were not able to be there and who have the best interests of the club at heart.

If we wait for an accurate account of events either from the centre via the Forum or via PP then we will still be waiting this time next year.

Can you help?

Andrew

Andrew,

I'm happy to talk through the events from the AGM, O7971 832780 in the evenings.

I'm not going to apologise to the Board for being honest, and I won't subscribe to the conspiracy theorists either!

To be fair to all, there are a lot of questions that just don't have an answer yet.

Patrick, I'm sorry you feel this way. The club's going through a rocky patch but it will weather the storm with everyones help. You run a cracking region, are organising the NEC Classic stand and won the spirit of the club award on Sunday. You're one of the good guys, and like Gary says you have to be in it to win it. I wouldn't do anything knee jerk in reaction to the workers conference/AGM. Re-evaluate what you want from the club, why you joined originally, and if you're not meeting those aspirations then yes you should leave though personally I'd hate to see you go.

This is about a vote of confidence by the region members .So far this has been 100%. I will not be standing down as RO. I have also had support from outside the region.I have had reservations about accepting the award but if the members of the club(not the previous board) think I should Accept then I will.

Thank-goodness for that.

not sure R8 could take yet another change of leadership. Patrick (don't make the same mistakes i did)forget about the Politics, my advice is don't get involved at all with anything outside the region.

just enjoy running the region your find it far more rewarding.

That is exactly what I am going to do. I have decided that I will only do events in the Region.I have handed the NEC show back to the board because I dont feel confident about going forward with it. I have booked it and if I hand it over now it gives them plenty of time to sort it.

A bit of an after the fact comment from me as you've already made the right decision [;)] but I whole-heartedly agree with the above sentiments.

I think there are a lot of R8 members who probably don't use the forum, and I'm guilty of not making it to many shows and meetings in the past, but from the odd show or event I've attended and the few people I've met, it seems to be a well run and friendly region.. Keep up the good work, collect your award with head held high, and as Helen said, try to avoid the politics!

Ben

Hi Patrick -

You have my full support and I am sure all the other R8 members will want you to continue as RO.

It seems to me that getting involved at Cornbury House is as painfull as a visit to the dentist !!!!!.

Keep up the good work - see you Sunday.

Happy motoring - Randolph

Thankfully I have had 38 years of experience of both Dentistry and Politics as well as being a Porsche owner and Club member for some 28 years. There is very little that I dont see coming and I dont have a price.

I have spoken to Paul and I am more than happy to accept the award as a member on behalf of the members who are the lifeblood of this club. Also seems I got my facts wrong and it is the piper trophy. SORRY! oops am allowed to use that word.
