My 04 986 S with all the toys (sat nav, phone, litronics etc ) but 46K miles for a 05 987 2.7 with Bose, Heated seats, PSM, full leather etc with 30K miles?

Will i miss the extra power?

Does the 987 need to have sat nav to re-sell later?

Being offered a great deal, the monthly payments will be the same!

Thanks

Rick

Early cars were/are prone to quiet a number of issues - RMS (yawn) for one. If its got FPSH and a warranty and it checks out well on inspection (no brakes, battery or air con parts required) then it could be a good move. Sat nav - i personally hate the Porsche PCM, its too low down, too antiquated in user interface and you get ripped off with updates (£350 a time).

I'm moe than happy with my £120 Tomtom, and come resale time the OPC will make such a luidicrously low offer it won't make any difference whether its got PCM or not.

There is a big leap in interior design and quality - its a more mature car - horses for courses but given the price slide (03 plate 996TT for under £35k quite feasible now ) its a buyers market at present - if the deal looks good go for it.

i can only share my thoughts on the coupe(!)2.7 and 3.4 engines-i definately would miss the bigger engine across the range.however ,having had a 996 before the cayman s i would definately go for the 987/997 model over the 986/996-it really is a huge difference imo-so given a choice i would come down more on the 987 difference over the 986 than on the engine difference-and tbh you may not notice the 40hp that much-the cayman diference is 55hp -and i certainly dont notice any difference from the 996 which had 25hp more-anyway ,i noticed the diference in the cayman engines very early so you may well know just after a short test drive if it wil be powerful enough to satisfy you-best wishes with your choice

If your swapping from a 04 3.2 to a 05 2.7 then the difference in power is going to be smaller than if you went to a 986 2.7 for the simple reason that the engine has got some (not a lot) extra power.

If i'm correct then the 2.7 will have a 5 speed gearbox which will help. I say this because you can go far further in 3rd gear than you can in the S.

Of course the simple answer is to try it and see but I don't think you'd be too disapointed with the 2.7. It has improved over the 986 and I wouldn't quibble at a late 986 even now.

Hmmm how does this work?

Just at the end of the day when negotiations are virtually complete and i am just 'confirming' the spec it turns out the car is quite different to the one i thought i was getting.... different blue (lapis not midnight) different interior colour (stone not ocean) and no bose or 6cd..... oh and 33K miles not 30K...... i told him i need to think about it cos its so different and he told me 'we close in 20 mins and i need to know today'........ not good.

Told him i dont have an answer and he said it wont be the same offer tomorrow. I left it....... didnt like the pressure and changing deal.

anyone want to bet he calls me today?

quite annoyed to go through the rollercoaster of emotions for a car that wasnt what it was supposed to be. I thought it was low on spec before.....

Guys thanks very much for the thoughts on spec etc. I may hold on for a better car, as you said it seems to be a buyers market......

Tcha! Salesmen.

I give it till 10:00am and your phone will ring.

As someone has already posted 'it's a buyers market' so you should be able to use the significant difference in spec to your financial advantage, if you still want to buy it from there of course.

Move on this car isn't for you and you will never be 100% sold on it now.

There are so many Boxsters out there that would fit your bill so much better so why ponder yonder for a second longer

Good luck with the hunt [;)]

**** him.leave well alone
what else is he being dishonest about.......
look for a nice 987 3.4 from a reliable source with no regrets[:D]

Spec not that great anymore then, although Lapis might have been a special colour (not worth anymore when used mind) and its very soft so prone to marks and chips.

Hold out for somthing better - there are plenty around for £22-£24k privatley with better spec, even 05 S models are well under £30k now. There is a nice cobalt blue 3.4S for sale on www.boxa.net for £33.5k (its on p'heads at £35k)

The phone did ring at 9.30....

Told him no thanks, i was interested in the car right until it changed spec.....

lol thanks for the help guys, I can easily get caught up in the moment and its nice to hear neutral opinions....

looks like a new clutch for mine instead [:)]
