Show balance on pre-pay phone SIM problem

Hi, new to 997, and having a few problems working the gadgets.
I've put an O2 pre-pay SIM in the phone to get started, which seems to work OK,
but I've not been able to get the >Show Balance *#10# to give me the info.
Anyone had similar experience ? SIM works fine in other phone handsets.
Guess the PCM phone isn't designed to work with pay-as-you-go SIM's ?
Thanks for any advice.

I use an Orange Pay-as-you-go Sim card without any trouble. My cheap Nokia handset doesn't display the remaing balance either and so I wasn't aware that this was a missing feature.
