Side window alloy trims - removal and refitting

My scabbly trims are at the end of their days and I'm picking up nice new ones today from OPC Reading. Only thing is, I'm lacking the know-how on removing the old and fitting the new. Anyone out there with some pearls of wisdom for me please? It's the ones in the rear side windows embedded in the rubber that seem to be pretty awful on many of the cars I've seen. By the way, they're not too pricey - £18.75 each plus the vat if anyone else is interested.

Cheers, Craig

Pity craig...
I have a brand new pair sitting in the garage..
I bought them , intending to do my S2 , but as its now sold they are spare..
Anybody interested,,??? £30 the pair..???
Cant help out on the fitting though, never did it.

I tried to fit a pair with the window in situ but gave up and removed the window and fitted them just to the rubber (with glass removed)but it was still a pita to do !!

I'll try to find out if it was fitted to all models.. it's possible that it was another cost cutting excercise on later models as having just spoken to my bodyshop guy who thinks it wasn't on later cars.. as i say i'll try to find out later.. unless of course anyone else here knows...[8D]

How did I know know that would be the answer...[]

So how do you get the windows out then? Sounds like I might just store this job up for when I've also got time to change the rear side speakers as the windows have to come out for that too (or so it says in the Clarks Garage guide to the matter...)

Just had a fiddle with mine.

Doubt they can be fitted in situ, looks like its a real hassle, they appear to be there to stop you removing the glass from the outside.

Guess they were bright on the 924.

do you mean on the B post ie between the drivers door and the rear side windows, or the rear side windows themselves? I though these are rubber seals?!

Look again - there should be a metal insert in the rubber window surround about 6mm across. Goes from the B post, round the window to the rear then back towards the b post again.

I removed this trim on my old car after I had the rear windows out to replace the speakers :) - it almost falls out once the window has been removed.

Hey Dave,

I'd be interested in those trims :) send me an email or private message and we can sort it out.

Cheers

Removing the 944 1/4 window has got to be one of the easiest windows to remove, start in the bottom corner inside and with a screwdriver push the rubber over the metal lip of the car body, once you have done this along the bottom and the sides the window will just lift out.Refitting is just the same but using the screwdriver(or trim fork) to pull the rubber back over the lip,i found this easier than using the string method but you could do it this way if you wanted.

OK Random, I'm gonna give it a go. Maybe today if it stops raining... In which case the damn window had better go back in again!
