Side Window Problem

I was lowering the hood this morning when I heard a sharp noise on the driver's side. I didn't think anything of it at the time but later, after parking up at the office and putting the hood up, I noticed the drivers window raised up only about 50mm or so, whilst the passenger window closed completely.

When I tried to raise it (by pressing the window switch) all I got was a grinding noise and the window stayed put. I managed to pull the glass up and it stays in place but it won't move under power.

Anyone else experienced similar? I think I feel a visit to the OPC coming on. Hopefully the extended warranty will cover.

Had this happen recently. The window regulator has gone. Its a cable based device and the cable snaps but the motor is a seperate unit and usually survives. You might be able to pull the window all the way up for short term security and dryness.

Thanks Colin. I suspected that. I've managed to raise it up so it's secure and dry (which is just as well as we've just had a downpour here).

I'll have a look in the Bentley manual tonight. If it's covered by the warranty then I'll get the lads at Swindon PC to sort it. Otherwise, I think I know what I'll be doing at the weekend. Although come to think of it, if I do, I'll probably void the warranty. Curses!

Out of interest, anyone replaced a window regulator?

I followed this web site and replaced my regulator. Just a matter of taking it one step at a time it took a long afternoon.

Indeed it was the regulator that was causing the problem. Good as gold, Dick Lovatt (Swindon Porsche Centre) replaced the regulator last Friday FOC under the Porsche extended warranty so I didn't have to get my hands dirty in the end....[:)]
