Side window seals!!

Have any of you had the missfortune of trying to re-fit the metal trim that fits around the rear quarter side windows of these 911s? Part of mine was out of the seal and in trying to fit it back the whole flippin thing has come out and after 2hrs with a tub of vaseline I am a bit sick, is it just trim or does it help hold the window in and do you have to take the whole seal and window out to fit it back in?

Help me before I go mad AARRGGHH!!!
