side window smearing

I have posted this issue on the General discussion board as it could be not specific to 997's/996's. But I am getting a problem with the inside of the side windows being smeared when operated. I know there is this coating is on the exterior of the window and surely should not affect the inside. With all the salt and stuff on the roads last week, the whole inside of the window was covered in a film of salt. Just cleaned the whole car this weekend, windows inside and out, and as soon as I bring the window down/up, there it is again. Anybody else having this problem, any tips to clean or tips to prevent this happening all the time[]

I noticed this yesterday on my new Boxster whilst cleaning it.

I only collected it on Friday from the factory and travelled home in a variety of weather conditions so I guess that hasn't helped.

I will have to keep an eye on it.

Hi Nick,

I noticed this on my 997 aswell. You're right - it's very annoying!! I found that doing the following helped to reduce the problem.........

Lower the windows right down.
Insert a thin, slightly damp, cloth and clean between the lengths of rubber from where the window emerges as it rises from out of the door. I found that dirt from the rubber was being transferred to the glass as the window was raised / lowered.

You'll be surprised at how much dirt the cloth picks up. Hope this helps.

This always happened on my previous 996 and now 997.I always wiped it off and lived with it!

I agree. It is a small point.
However lesser cars don't seem to have this problem, and I cannot understand why such a small point seems to apply to these cars @ £70k+
I know I should get a life[:)]

If thats the only problem I get then I can live with it, but you do have a point.

However summer is on its way and we wont remember the problem until next winter again.

I also have this (and had this with previous Boxster) and thought that it was excess grease from the winding mechanism as the car is new. After 6 months or so it gradually disappeared on the Boxster so hoping for the same with 997.
