Signs of clutch wear

Is there a way to tell if the clutch on my 3.6 C2 is near to needing replacing? I have read that one sign is if the pedal feels heavy, but I have only ever driven this one so got nothing to compare it with. Engine braking going down a steep hill in 2nd or 3rd is very good, whereas my other cars, Volvo V50 and Fiat 500 tend to run away, but I did notice the other day when accelerating hard uphill in 3rd the car's speed didn't seem to be quite keeping up with the revs.
tbh if it needs replacing I'll be slightly relieved as I can then get the IMS done pre-emptively.
Thanks for any advice.

HI Dombo63. I just had mine changed. I had a gearbox problem and the clutch was done at the some time. The give away was the clutch was biting very high up on the pedal travel about the last 1/4 of an inch. My indie said that that was a sign of the clutch being worn. Mind you mine's a turbo not sure if there are any differences. The release fork runs in small ball bearings and if they fail they can make the clutch heavy without the clutch necessarily being worn, but the gearbox has to come off to put that right anyway, and while its out yada yada yada
