"Silent" Car Alarm

I have a 1998 model 996 with the one-button ignition key. When I lock or unlock the car, I either get one or two flashes on the indicators for the central locking. This can be very frustrating as I never know whether the car has locked or not (unless I observe the lights). Is there a way of connecting the central locking to the horn or some other audible device?? Thanx, John

You can always leave the centre console storage compartment slightly open, which will give you a beep when locking. As a permanent solution, you could ground the radio cage contact wire. The only snag is that you won't know when you have left a door, lid, or compartment open when you are locking the car, as you will get the warning beep all the time.

Yes, the red LED flashes when activated but this cannot always be seen during the day. My wife's car's mirrors fold in when locked and my other car makes a loud click when the doors lock but then, both these other vehicles have seperate buttons for lock and unlock, my 911 only has the one button. John

Thanks Richard, but I have just replaced the centre console lid and removed the cloth "stay" so, when unlocked, it springs open. As you say, using the radio solution, I won't know if anything has been left open. Is it not possible to connect a beeper to the alarm system? Or is it possible to replace the one-button key to a key with lock and unlock facility? John

As a thought...is it possible to fit a "talking" alarm. I've seen on T.V. in the past, an alarm that, when activated, tells everyone to "please stand back or be anihilated!" in a loud Dalek voice. I think that would keep the wolves at bay! John

Changing the remote to a two button arrangement would be extremely difficult. You could rig up a small piezo buzzer to the indicators, using a relay to disconnect the supply when the ignition is switched on. It depends how good you are with electrics.........
