sill trim fixings

will lyons

New member
Hi does anyone know the correct sizes for the plastic sill trim nuts used to fasten them to the underside of the car.
has anyone bought them from OPC or used an alternative

Thanks in advance

Wil

Don't know the sizes but they are plastic and only few pence each (I think 50p or something) from the OPC. I suspect if you use metal nuts they will corrode onto the studs that are welded to the sill so when you come to remove them again they'll pull off the stud - a much more expensive fix. The plastic ones are still a PITA to remove but at least you can cut them off easily without causing damage to the studs.

I need a full set to refit my sill trims but I had a couple of plastic numberplate nuts lying around which I thought I'd try - they didn't fit [&o]

The part number for the genuine nuts from an OPC is 999 049 008 40 and you need five each side

I bought all of the side trim fixings from the OPC for refitting after having my sills done. As Paul says, only a few pounds for all 10, although I also bought the new angled brackets etc for the ends.

I have been to OPC today and ordered all fixings which were in the region of £53 inc vat for everything both sides ..... spacers !! nuts, brackets and the rivet for the front

thanks for responses I will let you know when I have them Paul for an indication of availability

Does anybody know the thread size of the studs the plastic nuts screw onto?. I need to replace most of mine as they have either snapped off during removal or are very corroded and look like they will go soon. My plan is to buy sone of the correct thread studding, cut it to size and weld (a couple of small tacks would do it) the pieces of studding onto the appropriate places. (After pulling carpet back in those areas as a precaution).

Has anyone done this?

John,

From memory, I don't think they have a 'thread size' per se, as they aren't threaded with a regular machine thread. They have a more irregular thread which is coarser and deeper than most machine threads.

Your plan sounds sensible, although I'd suggest finding a course of cheap plastic nuts and choosing a studding that they will fit on to. 50p for a plastic nuts sounds exhorbitant, and I am sure that they are available elsewhere in other sizes much, much cheaper (fractions of a penny.)

Oli.

Well, all of my fixings inc the metal angle brackets and rivets came to £38 inc my 10% PCGB discount from the OPC.

Almost not worth the hassle of trying to come up with a Heath Robinson solution?![;)]
