Sill trims

Does anyone run without these at all?
My car is in for a little bodywork and a good check over. Fortunately nothing major has been found except the missing front wing bottoms [8|] - that's why they have it.

However I knew I needed the front parts of the trim but the rest is also not going to be able to be reused either so do I splash out and replace or not? Pics would be great.

Also need a new drivers side side/fog light - my replacement one broke too!!
Anyone?

Well they are extremely expensive and 2nd hand ones are hard to find. I've seen a turbo in the car park at work who's owner has ditched them and it looks fine. No reason why you can't run without them and don't believe the urban myth about them creating downforce - i'm sure even if you did stretch her legs to the cars top speed you'd stay firmly planted on the ground!

I think its purely cosmetic and I do prefer them on. Should I have to go OPC way then I would definitely try them without first as they aren't a cheap option.
Presumably new sills come with the lugs attached? in which case the bodyshop will have to do some replication to allow them to be mounted.

Can't see why they would, as I thought they were the same part as the Lux sills. Happy to be proved wrong. [&:]

I'm considering the same thing, as at some point I'll need to deal with the very minor stone-chip rust around wings and sills. I think I'll ditch them, but I'm only concerned with, in order; budget, longevity, and budget. The sill trims serve no purpose other than aesthetic, but do add to corrosion.

Good point Paul.
So presumably when sills are replaced the attachment points have to be made from scratch.
Are you going to ditch the whole length or just the front section?

I don't know if they have to be attached seperately or not. Either way I think I'll ditch the whole lot, as to me they don't look that great, and can only trap dirt and lead to future problems.

In fact, the more I look at sill trims, foglight problems, cam tensioners costing a fortune etc., the more I wish I'd kept my Lux.....[&o]
