Sills Bubbling

I have noticed that my otherwise near perfect 1986 944 has started with a few bubbles under the paint on the l/h sill.
I looked into the spyhole on the door shut and the metal is clean.
Does anyone have any pics of the structure of that part of the car so I can see whats likely to be happening?
Thanks

Hi Steve,

It is possible, although unlikely, that it's just the stonechip material coming away from the metal. Whatever it is it needs treating, as water will be getting trapped behind. More likely to be the beginnings of the corrosion that affects nearly all the cars, did you look right down inside the sill through the vent, or take a picture? This is the inside of a sill, taken straight downwards in to the bottom, rear corner:

Mine started bubbling last year . I couldn't afford to have it repaired so I painted the inside of the sill with a liberal coat of sump oil mixed with grease and its stopped the rust dead for over 12 months [;)]
I'll have to do something about it eventually but for the time being its not getting any worse thank god.
It might give you some time to budget for the work and program it when its convenient.

Surface rust on the sills can exist. I have a couple of patches of such a thing on my S2. I ground them both back and found nothing deeper than just the surface - no increasing-size holes or pinpricks with brown edges.

Only way to find out is to take a wire brush to them and see what comes off.

Oli.
