Perhaps a silly question:

Can you use a brake hose clamp on braided metal brake lines? I'm assuming that it can't/shouldn't be done.

I've got some rebuilt calipers to fit & if would be sooooo nice not to lose any brake fluid from the ends of the hoses (which are of course braided metal)!

Instead...does it really stop the fluid loss by using something to keep the brake pedal compressed?

I wouldn't, the braiding is likely to maintain some deformation (though I doubt that braking performance would be immidately impacted, I suspect that the most likely thing to happen is that in time this would cause individual strands within the braiding to fail).

I can't remember what model you drive (or even whether you have mentioned on here), but with mine (4WD) when I have disconnected the brake line at the caliper there wasn't a huge flow rate. Not sure whether this is due to the ABD on the 4WD system or not.
If I was doing a straight swap I wouldn't be too concerned - no matter what metod I don't think there is any way of escaping bleeding the brakes afterwards.

Thanks AlexG [] I wasn't planning to clamp the lines as I had the same suspicions...now confirmed. Sounds good that I shouldn't lose too much fluid (1994 Carrera "2")[8D]
