G'day chaps

I think my washer pump has worn out as no noise from it during operation.

I need to double check electrics to it tomorrow as it's too dark now and COLD to be certain but have just looked on fleebay and located this which looks like a little bargain.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-911-924-928-944-968-996-WASHER-BOTTLE-PUMP-1-4L-/360308025598?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53e40828fe

can someone better than I tell me if it looks like a direct replacement?

I own a 1986 944 Turbo would would expect all 944 models to be the same!

any advice?

thanks to those that can help

That is not an original so you may have to bugger about to fit it ! have you checked fuses and wiring (plug on pump) ? you may have burned the motor out if the water has been frozen ?

Speak to Alasdair (sulzeruk) or elliot I am sure either of them could help you with your hunt for a pump.

Stupid Q, but how cold is it with you at the moment and how much wash concentrate do you have in your screenwash?

If the wash fluid has frozen in the pump it will give all the symptoms of a failed pump, as you describe.

plenty of screen wash in and certainly not frozen

just no pump operation on switch.

will looksy at electrics tomorrow and perhasp give motor a tap or two but I reckon it's probs passed it.

I had the same problem and bought one of these pumps which worked ok however removing the old pump, wrecked the seal at the bottom of the waterbottle and to cut a long story short the plastic is probably not the best quality and is quite brittle cos I then broke the pipe that inserts into the bottle. Having spoke to Gav at Sheffield OPC the indicator switch is a common failure with the joints corroding. Having bought my new seal I refitted the old pump and cleaned the connectors on the indicator stalk and the pump started working again. It's also a swine to get the bottle out you have to remove the headlamp motor keep the headlamps held up and wiggle the waterpump out so be prepared for skinned knuckles. New seal was around 6 pound so try cleaning the indicator stalk first I do find I have to pull the indicator stalk further back now but thats a job in the new year to change the switch.

Dave, Interesting info - thanks.

Paul, sounds like you are on the right tracks. Try hooking a bulb across the end of the wash pump wires (or an AVO meter, if you have one) - that'll be a good diagnostic. All the best with fixing it; no screenwash in this weather can't be fun.

Had a similar problem with mine some time ago. My son had the same thing on his Mk.1 Golf years ago caused by dirty switch contacts so I bought a spray can of electrical contact cleaner which I squirted into the switch mechanism (didn't even take the column shrouds off) and Hey Ho problem solved. My sigh of relief could be heard 2 doors away.
