Hi
I am thinking about an xmas present to myself and would like the centre console / nav surround in arctic silver. Can anyone reccommend anyone and is it a DIY job?
Thanks
Vron

Hi Vron
In case your'e wondering how much it would cost to have this fitted by porsche, I checked with my OPC to see how much it was to have just the lower center console (the section around the hand brake and the gear lever) replaced with alluminium look........ÂŁ600.
I thought it would be a few hundred but not six [:(]

Cheers
Paul

Thanks for the replies, the one on ebay is no good for me as I have sat nav. Anyone one used Design 911, they advertise centre console trim around the handbrake, surround for the sat nav and 2 x side vents for ÂŁ695.

Hi Guys,
I have been told because my car is a 2000 model, the one piece "horseshoe" silver surround will not fit around the sat nav. I need the one that is in 3 pieces. Does anyone know any different - can I fit the one piece ??
Thanks

I can't answer your question I'm afraid, but all the different surrounds for all model years are shown in the PET parts catalogue. You can download a copy via here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=230706. Go to page 330-340 for all the different colours etc, and look for the ones with M662 (Satnav) next to them. It might be a help, but will probably confuse you even more - it's a minefield.

Hi Vron
Did you get anywhere with updating your trim?
Im still thinking about getting this done, so id be ineterested to see how you get on
Cheers

Yes I am in the process of trying to fit it all and having a nightmare. The instructions on renntech are good but they are very simple. At the moment I am having a nightmare trying to fit the air vent with the headlight control on it as around the black trim that illuminates around the switch, there are wires going into the vent, no mention of these wires on any of the searches I have done. So I have one savannah vent and one silver at the moment. I got the parts from Prestige - not cheap but cheaper than Porsche and they are porsche parts. Any advice appreciated!!

I've had a look at the wiring diagrams and it is a bit of a mystery as to what those wires are. (I note that on Renntech you say that they are 4 brown wires). The power for the illuminated bezel comes from the main plug which connects to the light switch, so they aren't for that. The headlight adjuster has 5 wires of different colours, and they go to a plug on the back of the adjuster, which I assume you have found.

My guess is that someone has added some little 'extra', but I can't imagine why they would have run the wires into the vent, or do you mean the vent duct? Are you aware of anything that is non-standard which would need a connection to the light switch?

Here is the back of the trim surrounding the headlight knob with the circuit board and wires pictured, they come into the trim from the bottom.

Here are the instructions from the workshop manual (bearing in mind this is LHD, with no headlamp leveller control):
Removing left side vents and main light
switch
Pull forward the control button -25- of the light switch
-31- as far as it will go -direction of the arrow- towards
the front. Press in the locking device at the lower side
using a small screwdriver and remove the control button
towards the front.
Undo the fastening screws -21- at the side, remove the
side vent towards the front. Disconnect the plug connection
-30- of the main light switch -31-.
In order to disassemble the side vent, the covering cap
-28-, the fastening nut -26- and the inner race -27- of the
main light switch -31- can be removed. Remove light
switch -31- from the side vent by turning it slightly in
clockwise direction.

It doesn't make any mention of the wires connecting the "inner race" to the light switch. If you take the whole side vent off, is there a plug and socket at the back?

If you want the whole section of the manual, send me an email and I'll attach it to a reply.

The problem is the brown wires are so tight I don't think I can get the vent off , BTW I havent got headlamp levelling either, the circuit board function is a bit of a mystery!

I don't think it will be these wires that are holding the side vent from coming off. When I did my ignition switch I had to take off the side vent, and it did take a bit of persuasion. You should just have to remove the 3 torx screws -21- and the vent should come off in one piece. Once it is separated from the dash, you should be able to disconnect the plug at the rear. I haven't taken the illuminated bezel apart, so I don't know where the wires connect at the back.

Yes, I got the vent out enough to reach in and see that the 4 brown wires disappeared into a grey foam tube about 10cm into the dash. Inside the tube was a small black connector, my silver vents are now fitted [:)] thanks for your help - onto the centre console now!

Well done! There is some useful info about removing the console in the "Short Shifter" DIY. Again, if you want the instructions from the manual, let me know.

It would be nice to see some photos when you are all finished..

Just hit another problem with the centre console. It looks like I need to buy a hinge kit as I have an old console and the new one does not have mounting points for the console box hinged lid. So once again the car is left in pieces! I also need a part number for the two red plastic washers that the two torx screws go into to fix the black rear plastic console piece to the main centre console body. These have obvioulsy been redesigned too as my old ones don't fit the new console.
Thanks!
Vron

From the drawing I think it is part 99692001740 as they are the same red washers that hold in the lock assembly but the 2 washers in question are not actually pictured as the black extension piece is not pictured on the diagram!
