Silver Targa / Boxster Red interior

Does anybody know of a Targa with the colour combination of Artic Silver with Boxster Red interior, i am due to look at one this week, its up for sale in Cornwall via the Autotrader, looking at the photos and its history it looks a cracking car but i just cant quite convince myself on the interior colour. Id say its Marmite Red i will either love it or hate it. It made me think whether there might be any more with this combo or is it quite rare. Looking at a past posting on this forum i see that there were 161 manual Targas sold in 1997, this together with a total of 60 cars in Artic Silver spread over all models makes me think this car could be a one off which would make it all the more attractive. I am sure someone will now tell me they have one!!

I don't have a Targa but I have a C4S coupe with Boxster red upholstery. It is a personal choice, but I like it, you will have to make up your own mind. Afraid picture is of low quality, seems you cannot upload big files here. Hope this works?

Thanks Michael,

Seeing it in your car with a good quality photograph, i think i love it and by the weekend it should be mine, i am really looking forward to seeing how a manual 993 compares with my last 993 which was a Tiptronic S Targa, great car but after parting with my manual 3.2 Carrera to buy it, i soon realised i missed the involvement of driving a manual.

I have the same colour combination in my car and after initial concerns I am really glad I bought the car as its different from everyone elses. Mine is tone down by having black carpets over the red and my roof lining is black and lots of other bits and pieces, oh and after 70,000 miles its wearing far better than most other interiors.

Hi Gordon,

You have echoed my thoughts exactly. When I first saw it I thought great, then for a little while I went through some second thoughts but I am now really comfortable with it. As you say it is different from others and at full leather I believe cost some £1600 extra when new. I also have black matts and steering wheel and black head lining. I don't think I would have liked a red wheel. I have only seen one other with this combination, which was at classic Silverstone last year. Perhaps that was you?

Hi Paul,

I also have a 993 with Boxtster Red interior but with Ocean Blue paint. In my opinion it looks great and I have received many complimentary comments. It makes a change from all the Blacks, Classic Grey and Marble Grey interior colours, some of which do not wear very well. If it has matching Red carpets like mine I would recommend you get some black carpet floor mats.

Prior to my present Porsche I had an Arctic Silver with Chesnut Brown interior which was also different, but in mine and other peoples opinion also looked great.

Hope your happy with your purchase.[:)]

Kind regards,

Mark

Thanks for your comments, going down to Cornwall on Thursday and all being well i will be enoying a nice 200 mile trip back, the car in question has 80,000 miles on it with 2 owners and full Porsche dealer history all done by Exeter Porsche. Just had clutch and rear main seal done plus full 12,000 mile service. Do you think its asking price of £ 26,995 is about right for a 1997 car with its history, opinions will be much appreciated.

PAUL.

Hi Paul,

I am no expert on 993 values, but if the car has good history and more to the point is in very good condition then price sounds about right to me. As you will know Targa's are not so common which I would have thought is a good thing. I had the crankshaft oil seal and clutch replaced on my C4S last year and the bill at OPC was £1,053 including V.A.T. !!

If you are not afraid of negotiating I would try an offer £25,000. Even if you can only get £500 off it will go towards cost of new tyres etc.

Best of luck.

Mark

Unless the car is absolutely immaculate with FSH etc, I would agree with Mark with that 80k on the clock I would say that is a couple of grand, to high even for a manual so the nearer the £25k you get the better. Though with all these cars, condition and service history is more important than the mileage so do have it inspected.

For guidance on the interior mine has done a bit less and the seats only show a bit of wear on the drivers seat bolster and a little bit of stretch/sag on the drivers seat the previous owner(s) wee obviously bigger than myself.

FYI Northways sold one last month for £27.5k with 52k on the clock
