Silver Wheels

Hi Guys, missed the meeting where you had a guy from Silver Wheels come and give a talk.

I have to get my BM wheels refurbed so wondered what those who attended thought of this company?

What process did they use? Chemical strip? Powder or Wet finishing?

Did they offer any special prices for PCGB members

It goes something like this:-

Preparation - Chemical strip, crack test (if necessary), make good any faults (kerbing, out of true etc.), media blast to key the surface.
Paint - Powder-coat primer, liquid base (colour) coat, acrylic powder-coat lacquer.
Finish - Oven bake

They will either replicate the factory finish and colour or they can customise your wheels. You leave your car with them and eight hours later, collect it with the wheels refurbished.

No matter what the fault, their prices are fixed only varying with wheel diameter, (they're very reasonable, so I'm guessing there won't be a PCGB discount).
Marcus Beck brought some examples of their work and they were really very good and like all good companies, their aim is complete satisfaction so if you have any issues with the finished product, they will sort it out. Karl Wells had his 968 wheels painted and he is very happy with them - and Karl is fussy!

I suggest you get yourself over to Ferndown to have a chat - check their website for contact details.

& don't forget to say you're from the Porsche club & let Marcus know the standard your expecting, I wasn't totally happy with the initial results, but he repainted a couple of them when I explained my exact requirements & expectations. Mine were purely powder coat as they are satin black which meant they couldnt be partially reworked. He would have obviously prefered not to redo them but did when i explained what I wasn't happy with. I will definitely be using him again for my next project.

Did the guy from Silver Wheels have any conclusions regarding powder coat v wet spray finishes? Do they offer a wet spray process?

Sent them a contact mail 3 days ago regarding price, but no response yet!

Hi Richard

I went for powder as this was the only option available to me for satin black.

As per Chris's explanation above, yes the process includes a wet spray as per the manufacturers original factory process

Give them a ring 01202 896651, say your PCGB and ask to speak to Marcus
Regards
