Silverstone Classic display cars

This will be mentioned in the Porsche Post, but for those of you who want to get your name on the list early....[;)]

Silverstone will have masses of Register parking, but we would like 4 cars for a seperate display of all the Porsche models. I'm not sure what we'll do yet - I'm happy to wait and see what cars come forward. We've had red, white and blue before, all red and red/ black alternate cars before. If anyone has a proper "gold" car then red, black and gold would be nice. Another idea would be to have a road-legal but track-modified car, as so many are now going down that route.

Cars would have to be there for all three days, and can't be moved around during the day for obvious reasons. The usual choice would be a Lux, a Cab and a Turbo to show the range, but if you think your car is in any way interesting then please get in touch with me, preferably e-mail.

Also, I'd quite like a really rusty car to show on the Register area. It would be nice to be able to show potential buyers, and owners who still believe the cars are fully-galvanised and will never corrode [], the areas to look for.

Thanks!

No, battery has been replaced (and with new starter motor, rotor arm and cap), starting problems banished! [:)] Still has some dents, dull paint and some rust and various mechanical issues.

Actually, when is silverstone?? I'd be happy to point out potential problems using my car as it currently still has/recently had lots. As long as the dates suit. Having owned my 944 for 12 years now, come to think of it I'd be a pretty good person to ask "whats it like to run one for a long time?"

Final reminder!

The cars for the display and Register parking will be finalised THIS FRIDAY. If you haven't notified me that you're coming yet, and didn't ask for display parking when you booked, please do so now!

Having read through the list of events over the weekend it really is going to be even better than last year, make sure you come and say hi to the team whilst you're there. [:)]

Not in registry parking but I will be in the paddock with my Orange 944 S3 !!! -- hoping to race in the 2 PCGB events about 11-ish on Sat & Sunday. (am on the reserve list, so will do qualifying and hope for a place to emerge)

Very Good luck with the qualifying and hope you get the chance to do the actual race...Im sure you have been asked this before but whats a 944 S3 ?...

P.s. how do you find the Koni sport shocks ?

Cheers Steve.

Do you think we can get an even bigger gathering of 944 cup cars than last year ? I counted at least 4 [;)]

Where was everyone?

We were there all Saturday (good day out, I must say, and well done Andersson in the 928 for coming second) )

More Ferrari's than you can shake a stick at, plenti of Loti, but "Porschestrasse" seemed to contain one 968, no 924s, 944s... At least the Porsche experience center by Hangar Straight had a few nice display cars.

I was thinking that. I spotted Trefs car and McNulters car, and found WUF in the paddock. Didn't see a single person I recognised and we wondered around for 3.5 hours from 12 onwards, after that we sat in the stands and enjoyed the racing. The Alfa 8c in the carpark got a lot of attention (bit of a let down in the flesh, Maserati GT much nicer IMHO). The only Porsche guy I chatted to was one of the 944 S2 racers, nice bloke and good tip about the GAZ suspension, loads of S2's being raced these days.

My car was with the other 35 or so!

I was manning the entrance to the site, but did say call me to see where the 944 regulars were. We had a regular lunch meet and pint, and watched some of the racing together. It was also mostly 944 owners who mucked in to help with the breakdown on Sunday afternoon - thanks guys! [:)]

Please, if you come to a Register event do make the effort to come and say hi, we all like to catch up with old friends and make new ones. I'm seriously considering an invitation to Donegal, but not sure that my liver will be up to it....thanks, Donal! [:D]

Hi Sean,

Did you get to the main Club area? There were about 600 cars on display, Silverstone even helped by sending people with the wrong passes to us to help our carefully-arranged layout! [][]

It was actually nice to welcome people who'd not booked to display, or non-members who'd been sent to us by mistake. It certainly filled the area, I reckon we had around double the expected cars on display and it was a stunning line-up of the entire 60-year Porsche range.

Hi Paul,
Great, and we managed to miss it!! Must look more carefully at the maps next time.

Hope it went well for everyone. The weather certainly did its bit.

To be fair we were just outside the main central area to accomodate the huge number of display cars. It meant that some people thought it was a Porsche car park, turned back and went to look for the Club area somewhere else....[]

I'd guess that next time we'll have a smaller "display" more centrally, and a member's car park further out.

Hi-jacking the thread some-what, how many other 944's had a rosette invitation to the National Concour on their windscreen?

Walking up and down I saw one other (a cabrio) yet know there are far more eligable examples than ours.

Good idea, I overhead some unfortunately negative comments from the joe public near me before we wondered through the PCGB area, the usual stuff like "german invasion" and "very common these Porsches" that you get from some people. A smaller selection showing all the most special cars etc. is much smarter IMHO. As an example it was a bit of a disapointment to see the old RS's tucked away at the one end of the area and a big empty whole that I suppose should have had more then a couple of Cayenne's. However otherwise the arrangement and stuff done by PCGB was IMHO more impressive then that managed by any of the other car clubs present, so good job.

We where there mostly to have a good look round and watch some racing since this was the first motor race Stephanie has been to and I am anal about getting round to see it all before my feet hurt. It didn't bother us too much that we didn't bump into anyone we know.

George and Diane's was the cab. Don't run yourselves down, you deserve the invitation! Whether you can afford the professional team to work on the car in the morning before judging is another matter! [&o]
