I wanted to share a great recent day I had at the Silverstone Experience Centre. I've been once before, last year, and drove a 997 C2 S manual (same model as my own) but last month I returned and did the RS course one afternoon.
I'm no racer but it was great to drive the GT3 RS 3.8 and then GT2 (GT2 RS was off sick aparently!) but the highlight for me was a chance to drive the GT3 RS 4.0.
Although the tight experience course does not allow you to use all the capacity it was a still a really great experience and one I will treasure.
(my first post was a rather dull technical question [thanks for the helpful responses] and seing Hamish's post today about picking up a new Porsche had me nodding about why we do what we do)

Ever since I drove the GT3.2 at PEC last yr...have wanted one badly ! Alas, they are still 80k used so well out of my price range [:(]

Daren't drive the 4.0 otherwise might have to consider selling the house [:D]
 
I too have had a play here last year with a GT3 which came with my purchase. As you say it is tight and you are only in 2nd and 3rd but the instructor was good and even at those speeds lap after lap pushing hard you knew you had been working at the end. I managed to drive both ceramic and std brakes with standard first. The PCCB felt different and took a couple of laps to feel confident again but the lack of fade was amazing. Kick plate, ice hill and the track with changing grip were also great. I know it is fairly expensive to pay to go but i probably used nearly a tank of fuel and a decent percentage of the tyre tread so really glad it was not my own car! Thoroughly recommended.
 
I did the same course recently

I enjoyed the GT2RS most to be honest and then I got back in my turbo S and realised that I had bought the right car, especially in the spec I have chosen, carbon race seats etc etc.

Mind you if I could have more than one 997 then I agree the 4.0 woudl be the additional one to the turbo s

I have to agree. I drove the GT3RS and GT2 and it made me want an RS more than ever but..... I need the cash for the RS and another Porsche for holidays etc. and don't have it! As to the 4.0 RS I must avoid ever driving it or else the house will be sold immediately! For the money its a great 90 minutes given the ability of the instructor and how he helps get the best out of you and the chance to drive some expensive toys in the variety of situations PEC Silverstone offers.
 
Three weeks ago Tanya and I nearly bought a 10 plate rs,we both test drove it,stunning car
I am glad we didn't,Don't get wrong it is truly amazing but I don't think it would be that good for our roads
When pulling out of a fuel station, the surface no higher than a snails back,the front splitter scrapped nicely
along the road.fantastic car for the track or european roads sadly not ours in the southwest.

Perhaps non RS GT3 has a bit more ground clearance at the front (anyone know) ??

Things I was most impressed with were :-

- the noise !
- turn in (total lack of under steer)
- the noise !!
- carbon bucket seats + roll cage
- looks like a racing car
- feels like a racing car (something very special to be in)
- SOUNDS like a racing car [:D]

Oh yes....she will be mine....but perhaps like you, not if every spirited country road drive results in loss of front splitter [&:]
