I've just returned from a Boxster driving experience at Silverstone, what a superb day out. Great fun in the car topped off with some excellent food. Looking at our parking area for the Classic I hope Silverstone are better at growing grass than Wembley are!

What would Silverstone be without mud .... I remember a F1 race a few years back ..... eeeek!!

I was there yesterday with a mate who owns a Boxster. Yes, it was a fantastic morning of driving and excellent hospitality. I have to say, having been a Porsche owner since 1983 and having just sold my C2, which I kept for 9 years, the Boxster with PDK and SC+ was a fabulous car to drive. A lot less expensive to run than a 997 so uuuummmmm may be tempted [:D]

I concur with my friend above, a great morning out with a superb lunch thrown in. I have to say that I would need at least 5 days in the real world to fully assess the benefits of PDK though. when you're pushing, as I was, it can be a handful to keep your hands in the right place to use the padals. The handling circuit, which is very twisty and has great grip, imho, suits the manual car far better. I felt a lot mare relaxed going fast in the manual as I would have been in my own 2.7. I would definately NOT buy the Spyder, the hoods a nightmare, I don't like the door straps and the weight saving would be eaten up by any human being heavier than a flea!

Go on Don, you know you want too, get a white 3.2s with PDK, Sat Nav and Sports Chrono and put the decals on the side, perfick [;)]

I was also there today with my mate. Absolutely great day, no limitations on how you drove the car and the instructors were great, offering some really good advice on handling if you were prepared to listen. My instructor insisted you can get around the handling course with your hands at quarter to three, ensuring you are able to use the paddles all the time. I am used to a manual. but felt the PDK was brilliant and easy to drive quickly on unknown roads.
Spyder on a nice day like today with no roof, happy days, but I really couldn`t live with the all that folding and storing of the roof. It is like going back to the `70`s. Nice weekend toy though!
Well organised event, followed by a nice lunch, recommended.

Now, how much is a PDK kitted Boxster S??

Had a great day there on Thursday the 22nd but could not help compare the Boxster to the same experience last September in a 911.
The Boxster's handling is altogether in a better league!
On the kickplate, the skidding Boxster can be corrected in half a turn of the wheel, whilst the 911 see-saws wildly.
On the ice hill, the Boxster can be relatively easily steered around the water jets while the 911 fishtailed all over the place.
The polished road is a great demonstration of how PSM really does work if you ever need it.
I think we know that the 911 is a flawed genius, but its quite different to actually experience how and why?
IMO Porsche should stop messing around and make a 400hp Boxster which would be a really special to drive.
I loved the Speedster, but so much effort to lighten the car, when an uprated engine would have produced the same result?

YouDrive@Porsche, where you drive your own car, is £165 - their cheapest course. I don't think they do a specific course that allows you to compare cars (eg: Boxster to 911 - none of their off-the-shelf courses involve the Boxster), but given they have at least one of almost everything, I bet they'd be willing to arrange something.

That would be a 3.4 though since PDK only came along with the DFI 3.4 engine.
