Sim card holder

It gets to be a pain inserting the sim card each time we use the car and then removing it and re-installing it into our mobile phone when we get out of the car. Even worse at night! Other than get a 'pay as you go' sim card and have to learn yet another phone number has anyone got any other bright ideas?

What do you think about the Porsche mobile phone solution. A friend who drives Ferretrarri says his phone works on Bluetooth and the car is equipped for this system. Not a Ferretrarri fan personally but they seem to be one step ahead of Porsche on this one.

Pay as you go SIM in the car and set your personal mobile 2 'call forward' to it; still need to make outbound calls on the PAYG SIM but allows you to receive from your personal number.

The usual get round is to purchase a pay as you go sim for permanent install in the car. Then divert your existing phone to the PAYGo when in the car. OK you effectively have to pay twice. The Germans don't seem to have caught up with technology yet. The PCM is a bit of a dinosaur compared with some other systems.

I didn't bother with the Porsche phone kit and had the Nokia Bluetooth kit fitted instead. This works fine, mutes the radio and displays 'External Phone Connected' when i make a call. My BM has the 'official' bluetooth kit which up loads the phone memory everytime you connect - which is done automatically and then calls are made either via the 'I drive' or off the steering wheel buttons. No fannying around with sim cards. Porsche are way behind the times on this bit of technology!

Spoke to Vodaphone today and it is possible to have two matching sim cards but they charge £15.00/month for the privelege. If we spent a lot of time in the car and ran up a huge phone bill this wouldn't have been a big deal. However the other option, to buy a second sim card, appears to be the most sensible solution. Will arrange for call divert to go to the car phone system.

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.

I agree with Graham. Forget the Porsche phone module and fit a Nokia Bluetooth. I have found it works really well and there is no chance of dropping your sim card down the handbrake slot when trying to insert it into the simcard holder! I managed to do this in my previous Porsche and vowed never to have the phone module again.

. The Germans don't seem to have caught up with technology yet.

But they have, BMW and Merc both do some excellent systems.

Orange also now do an additional SIM with the same number, think it was about £5 per month plus a joining fee [:'(]

Have said before on another similar thread, Vodafone offer second, or third sim cards off the same number. Have set up mine with one in the 997, one in the Cayenne and one in the mobile. Works fine with a shortcut dial to switch between them (only for incoming calls) outgoing works on all three all the time.

Downside is that there are currently no cheap price plans attached.
