Slick 50

Hi everyone.

Has anyone ever tried using Slick 50 in their car. I've been tempted to try it for years but never quite plucked up the courage as I don't know anyone that's used it. I would be interested in any feedback that might be out there.
 
Don't -if you use a good 10-40W oil and one of the top petrols -i.e. Shell, BP, Esso (NOT a supermarket fuel), this should not be necessary.

There was an article some years ago, in which Porsche said not to use it - it could clog up some of the fine oil passages.

Also, with the moving parts being manufactured with various hard coatings, there is no need.

Worth asking, though.

John may well be right with regard to hard coatings. That said, I have a long history of using Slick 50 in my Range Rover. I took it new to Cairo in 1984 and after 15,000 miles opted to add Slick 50. As I recall, after adding it you are advised NOT to change the oil for a further 5,000 miles at least (to give it time to adhere to contact surfaces). This I did and from then on changed the oil every 3,500 miles regardless (oil in Egypt at that time was suspect in quality). I ran the RR for 12 years, my Daughter then for a further 2 years before finally selling it with 198,000 on the clock and not so much as a top-end overhaul.

Before reading John's comments about 'fine oil passages and hard coatings' I would have said 'go for it' but on reflection, I think I would defer judgement.

You don't say (unless I've missed something) how many miles it has done. If it's 100k plus, then what about the new GTX for Higher Mileage engines? It is mineral based.
