sliding bush

New member
just had my MOT which it has passed but I was given the following advisory notice:

"nearside and offside front macpherson struts have slight play in the sliding bush or gland"

the guy showed me what the problem was and basically when the front wheel is off the ground and when he pulled the wheel from top to bottom you could see (from inside the wheel arch) the top of the shock absorber moving ever so slightly.

Does this mean I'll need new shocks or just inserts perhaps ?

When you say the top of the shock..
Do you meen the top which goes through the front inner wing OR the top where the strut piston comes out of the strut body.??

Thanks for reply. I think it is the latter. It is the tube of plastic which is moving, into which the spring goes. There is no movement right at the top where connected to the wing. Hope that helps...

A common problem with the S2 standard shocks.

They wear out the top of the shock body where the shaft enters the body.

If its just an advisory, you might not need to worry about it now, but there is a chance that by next years MOT the movement may be too excessive for your car to be granted a certificate
