Slight creaking noise......

Started to notice a slight creaking noise on the front suspension on my '99 986.....
On the MOT it had an advisory that the lower suspension ball joint was going....could it be this?
After a good run, it is worse, and if you press down on the front passenger side when it is stood, you can hear it then...
one of the bushes worn?
No knocking or anything, just an annoying little creaking sound....

Any ideas?

Could be, Steve.

If you get someone to press down on the front wing while you listen, you should be able to locate the creaking bush. As a temporary fix, applying some washing-up liquid to the area might help.

It will be the ball joint on the lower wishbone (coffin arm). Very common, and not too expensive to replace. The whole arm has to be replaced, but there are several suppliers of the original TRW part.

I had exactly these symptoms and Richard's diagnosis is spot-on. The lower wishbone (coffin arm) comes complete with the ball joint and is stocked by Euro Car parts among others. It's a DIY job if you are a proficient DIYer.

Do both sides and enjoy the tighter steering/handling after the job.

thanks guys, I have found a supplier on ebay, but will check out euro car parts as well...
Porsche want £650 to supply and change both.... []

Got both sides done today for the bargain (if you can use that word and Porsche in the same sentence!) price of £380 all fitted.
Genuine Porsche parts as well.....
And I never thought it would make such a different but the car feels more alive....
